The National Lottery Project Grants is the open access programme for arts, museums and libraries projects. The fund supports thousands of individual artists, community and cultural organisations.
Project Grants is already able to support a really broad range of types of activity. They can support projects that directly create and deliver creative and cultural activity and content for audiences, visitors and digital users, and also those that have a longer term impact on strengthening the sector, such as organisational development, research and development and sector support. They will continue to support a wide range of different applications, from organisations and from individuals.
Arts Council England will be particularly keen to support:
- applications from individual creative practitioners (including time to think
- and plan)
- research and development activity
- organisational development activity
- live activity that aligns with the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown
- (applicants should stay up to date on the latest guidance)
- activity that closely aligns with the Equality Objectives

Criteria
The criteria for the programme remain the same, but the information you need to provide to answer the questions in the application form might feel a bit different during this period.
- Public engagement: They know that public engagement, for example, is likely to involve smaller numbers of people for live activities at the moment, and/or a focus on engaging people through digital means. Public engagement might happen as part of the project, or it might happen in the longer term, beyond the boundaries of your project.
- Management: Managing an activity effectively and safely in this period means that applicants will need to take some new and different things into account. If an activity involves working with the public, you will need to have a plan in place to do this as safely as possible and manage risks effectively. You’ll need to use your answers in this section to tell them how you can feasibly deliver the project you’re proposing, and what you’ve done to make sure it is safely delivered.
- Finance: Match funding – They know that for most artists, creatives and organisations the current situation has made finding additional financial support challenging.
