Atkinson Foundation is seeking applications from US organisations to provide assistance, support and training for individuals to attain their highest potential in areas of educational, social, and economic life; to assist their efforts to become independent and self-sufficient; and generally to improve the quality of their lives.
George H. Atkinson (1905 – 1978) and his wife, Mildred M. Atkinson (1904 – 1967), believed in helping individuals and families achieve independent and rewarding lives. In 1939 they initiated the tradition of thoughtful philanthropy that is carried on by the Atkinson Foundation today.
Focus Areas
- The sustainable development of water and food resources, with a particular interest in clean water and sanitation
- Microenterprise and economic development initiatives
- Nutrition and food resources
- Health education and family planning
Funding Information
- The foundation distributes approximately one million in grants each year.
- Most grants range between $5,000 and $15,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- All grants for international programs should be to U.S. nonprofits providing services in Mexico or Central America.
- A declined proposal will not be reconsidered, but this should not preclude the applicant from submitting other worthwhile requests. Normally an applicant will not receive more than one grant within a calendar year
- An applicant can expect prompt notification once a decision has been reached. Do not hesitate to call the Foundation if you have any questions about the grant making cycle or process.
- The foundation does not support research, individuals, events, annual appeals, advocacy efforts, sports group sponsorship, or statewide/national umbrella organizations.
