The Canterbury Bankstown Council is accepting applications for its 2022-2023 Community Grants and Events Sponsorship Program.
Objectives
- Community Grants
- In accordance with exercising its function under the Local Government Act 1993, Council provides financial assistance to community groups, not-for-profit organisations and other eligible applicants to support the provision of programs and services that:
- respond to an identified community need or generates benefit to the community.
- contribute to the building of stronger communities by increasing capacity, harmony and social cohesion.
- are in accordance with Council’s strategic objectives.
- comply with any COVID restrictions set by NSW Health
- In accordance with exercising its function under the Local Government Act 1993, Council provides financial assistance to community groups, not-for-profit organisations and other eligible applicants to support the provision of programs and services that:
- Events Sponsorship: The City of Canterbury-Bankstown Annual Community Event Sponsorship Program supports local events that promote social, economic and community outcomes and enable local community based organisations to offer events that enhance community well-being in the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Area.
Funding Information
- Community Grants: Funding between $500 and $15,000 will be considered under this program. Applications seeking amounts in excess of $15,000, or that cannot be delivered effectively within a twelve month period, must be discussed with Council’s Coordinator, Community Development prior to the closing date.
Note: Grants will not be provided as reimbursements for projects that have already commenced.
- Events Sponsorship: Funding between $500 and $10,000 will be considered under this program.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must:
- Be an incorporated, non-profit, non-government based organisation or contributing to a registered charity. Applicants that are not incorporated must be auspiced by an organisation that has current Public Liability Insurance that will cover the proposed project. (Note: Schools and School based Parent Committees cannot apply).
- Have acquitted all grants previously funded under the Council Grants Program.
Selection Criteria
- Community Grants
- Applicants must meet eligibility criteria
- All required sections of the Annual Grants Program Application Form must be completed, including a comprehensive project budget and a Project Plan
- Supporting material must be attached to your online application
- Applications that include items of expenditure that total $2,000 or more must include one (1) quote.
- Projects need to address the ‘2022 Community Grants Priority Outcomes List’ that is referred to in the application form and attached to the online registration process.
- All projects are encouraged to demonstrate originality and social/environmental sustainability
- Events Sponsorship
- All required sections of the Annual Grants Program Online Application Form must be completed.
- Supporting material should be attached to your online application
- Applications that include items of expenditure that total $2,000 or more must include one (1) quotes.
- Partnerships or collaborations with organisations that have similar objectives are encouraged
- Projects should demonstrate that they can be delivered effectively and efficiently.
- Events must be open to the general public
- Events supported by Council must seek to achieve of one or more of the following objectives:
- Promote economic development/ activity
- Encourage visitation
- Address identified needs in key target groups
- Encourage capacity building
- Acknowledge diversity and build harmony
- Nurture community pride/ sense of belonging
- Celebrate local, state-wide and national events of historic or civic significance
- Contribute to a positive image of Canterbury-Bankstown and its people
- Promote the City and its suburbs, showcase local talent
- Educate, inform and engage
- Provide fun, affordable and accessible activities for local residents
- Events must comply with any COVID restrictions set by NSW Health
