The Maroondah City Council is inviting applications for its Emergency Relief Grant Scheme from incorporated, not-for-profit community groups to deliver and develop emergency relief programs and services to assist vulnerable people and those at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
Emergency relief programs and services help people to address their immediate basic needs in times of financial crisis.
Emergency relief is frequently provided in the form of material, food, and financial aid. This may constitute food parcels, clothing, vouchers (e.g. supermarket, utilities, myki, petrol), and community meals.
Objectives
- To assist people to deal with their immediate crisis.
- To maintain the dignity of the individual and families to whom services are offered and promote social inclusion.
- To offer people referrals to other sources of support and assistance (e.g. mental health, crisis housing, drug and alcohol, and financial counseling) if requested.
- To encourage self-reliance and skill development.

- This scheme offers assistance up to $7000
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be an incorporated community group with not-for-profit status. If not incorporated, an application must be auspiced by an eligible not-for-profit incorporated organisation.
- Must be located within, or servicing, the Maroondah community.
- Must maintain Public Liability Insurance Cover ($20 million minimum) or be auspiced by an the eligible organisation with this level of public liability insurance cover.
- Schools and hospitals are eligible to apply if they partner with another eligible community organisation and can demonstrate that the project is outside of their core business.

The following are not eligible
- Organisations that have a multi-year funding and service agreement with Council.
- New building projects, capital works requests or facility maintenance projects.
- Funding to individuals.
- Projects which do not demonstrate wider community benefit or increase access and inclusion.
- Multiple applications.

Applications from organisations with an outstanding grant acquittal with one of the following grant schemes:
- Community Development Grants Scheme
- Small Equipment Grants Scheme
- Emergency Relief Grants Scheme
Assessment Criteria
- Council assesses your application by considering the information you provide in your application form. The Assessment Criteria section is extremely important.
- Applicants applying for funding between $3500 and $7000 need to address all three of the assessment criteria. Applicants applying for under $3500 need to address a minimum of one of the assessment criteria.
- All applications for this scheme will be assessed according to the following criteria:

Community empowerment
- Projects, programs, and services which increase inclusive access, encourage volunteering and/or assist with the development of life skills such as budgeting, nutrition, etc.

Community wellbeing
- New initiatives or the expansion of an existing service that will directly address identified needs of vulnerable community members and contribute to improve wellbeing.

Community assistance
- Provision of assistance in the form of material/ food aid plus offer support and advocacy to vulnerable members in the community.
