The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) has launched applications for Fourth Round of the Arts-in-School Partnership Scheme that aims to foster collaboration between local arts organisations/artists and schools, promote better use of school premises by facilitating the schools to open their facilities to arts organisations/artists for artistic creation and various arts activities, and bring arts into the school campus.
Upon collection and assessment of the proposals from arts units, an invitation will be sent to all local primary, secondary and special schools. HKADC will match the arts units with the schools according to their respective applications, including the proposed usage, location preference and the schools’ requests etc.
The types of proposed activities may include performances, exhibitions, open rehearsals, seminars, workshops etc. The embracement of elements engaging the community is appreciated.
Partnering arts organisations/artists will be provided with a subsidy to hire the facilities of partnering schools during non-school hours, weekends and school holidays for no less than 300 hours per year at each school.
Partnering schools will provide basic administrative and operational support as well as storage space for the arts organisations/artists.
Objectives
HKADC would like to achieve the following objectives through the Scheme:
- Optimising usage of school premises and facilities during non-school hours, weekends and school holidays while addressing the demand for arts space and rehearsal venues of the arts sector.
- The Scheme will facilitate school operators to open their premises and facilities for partnering arts organisations/artists to organise arts activities such as rehearsals, arts classes, arts workshops, etc.
- Enhancing arts education and promotion in schools.
- Stimulating students’ interest and ability in arts appreciation.
- Nurturing audience and enlarging its size.
- Encouraging community involvement by bringing arts organisations/artists closer to the community so as to enhance the quality of lives.
Funding Information
- Each organisation applicant may submit one proposal only. Each individual artist may submit one co-partnership application only.
- The maximum funding for each partnership made between a grantee and a school is HK$200,000.The funding consists of two parts:
- Hiring Grant: Each grantee will be provided with a subsidy of not more than HK$120,000 to meet the hiring charges levied by schools.This hiring grant shall be paid to the partnering school directly by HKADC.
- Activity Grant: HKADC will provide an activity grant of not more than HK$80,000 for the grantee to organise at most two arts activities for partnering school. The grant for each activity shall not exceed HK$40,000.
Eligibility Criteria
Each arts unit can apply for partnering with a maximum of two schools, with priority given to arts units that have participated or are participating in the Arts-in-School Partnership Scheme. Successful applicants will receive subsidies covering hiring charges and arts activities coordination based on the actual costs of all expenditure items, and will start their partnerships with the matched schools.
Organisation applicant:
- Small and medium-sized arts groups/organisations that are registered and operating in Hong Kong, including grantees of HKADC Year Grant.
- Eminent Arts Group Scheme and Literary Arts Platform Scheme, arts organisations with sponsorship/successful application from LCSD Venue Partnership Scheme.
- HAB Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme, arts organisations with existing school partners or experience in implementing arts activities in schools, as well as arts organisations with the ability and experience of organising high-quality arts activities.
- Applications by organisations which are in the process of being registered, sole proprietorship or joint submission by more than one organisation are not accepted.
Individual co-partnership applicant:
- HKADC accepts co-partnership application submitted by two to four individual artists with an appointed producer/curator/administrator.
- Each individual applicant should be Hong Kong resident aged 18 or above, currently practising in arts and with relevant experience in arts education.
