The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is accepting applications for Applying gender equitable and behaviorally-informed solutions to increase uptake of routine immunization among zero-dose children in Mozambique.
Objectives
- The objectives for the long lasting and sustainable immunization plan are to:
- Reduce the number of zero-dose and under-immunized children between 2019 and 2022 affected by the disruptions to routine immunization services exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic in the priority districts.
- Identify and implement activities that can adaptively overcome persistent challenges in the immunization program and re-build a system that is able to withstand future disruptions.

Expected Outputs
- Individual level Output 1:
- Male and female caregivers of zero-dose/under immunized children have increased confidence, awareness of vaccination services and trust in the health system
- Implementation of strategies to tackle intra-household gender dynamics to promote equitable childcare responsibilities.
- Implementation of socio-normative approaches such as addressing descriptive and/or injunctive norms to increase vaccine uptake.
- Engagement of community leaders and local CSOs as key elements to promote uptake of routine immunization.
- Community access Output 2:
- Access to immunization services is improved for male and female caregivers of zero dose children through enhanced safety, flexible timing and convenience
- Implementation of risk mitigation measures to improve female caregivers safety to travel to health facilities in order to increase access and uptake of routine immunization.
- Experience of care at the health facility Output 3:
- Health workers are enabled and capacitated to provide respectful, gender-responsive quality care to male and female caregivers
- Capacity building of health workers (in health facility and those part of the mobile brigades) on interpersonal communication (IPC) and gender inclusiveness (based on the current MoH IPC training modules) for enhanced information sharing on diseases prevented through RI, AEFIs, vaccination schedule, follow-up appointments.
- Providing technical support and strengthening the capacity of health staff to integrate gender and human rights-based approach into their day-to-day activities.
- Co-design of contextually tailored, behaviourally informed and gender responsive tools to facilitate quality of service.
- Health worker engagement in fostering equitable caregiver participation in childcare and child health (male engagement).
