The United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan is announcing a call for low value grants applications among non‑governmental/non-commercial organizations within the framework of the project “Alliances for Change – Elimination of All Forms of Violence and Harmful Practices Against Women and Girls in Central Asia” of the Spotlight Initiative Regional Programme.
The purpose of this call is to identify and summarise successful innovative practices in working with survivors of violence or representing their interests, which could be summarised for peer-to-peer exchange and knowledge sharing with interested counterparts (civil society organisations).
The Spotlight Initiative is the largest collective action to date to eliminate violence against women and girls by 2030. It is implemented as a global long-term partnership between the European Union and the United Nations.
The concept of the Spotlight Initiative consists of counteracting all forms of violence against women and girls, primarily domestic, family, sexual and gender-based violence, harmful practices, femicide, human trafficking, sexual and economic exploitation.
Objectives
- The objective of the low value grants: identification and synthesis of best practices and new approaches in the delivery of services for survivors of violence and interaction with structures designed to protect the legitimate rights and interests of survivors of violence, including in the crisis situation caused by COVID-19 pandemic, for the subsequent peer-to-peer exchange of experience and training of partners.
- Low value grants Competition Arrangement:
- Announcement in media, social networks, UNDP Kazakhstan website, direct mailing to non-governmental and non-profit organisations in Central Asia, operating in the field of achieving gender equality, promoting the rights and empowerment of women, providing services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, protecting the rights and interests of victims of violence, interacting with government agencies on developing policies in the field of gender equality, countering violence, eliminating harmful practices against women and girls, improving statistics on violence against women. Conduct briefing session for applicants online on the Zoom platform by pre-registration.
- Collect applications by the deadline in the format of a Grant Application with a full package of documents attached for participation in the Grants Competition.
- Review applications by the Grant Committee. Based on the results, approved applications will receive funding in the form of grants from the Spotlight Initiative Regional Programme Alliances for Change – Eliminating All Forms of Violence and Harmful Practices against Women and Girls in Central Asia.
- Implementation of projects by grantees after receipt of financial resources, including monitoring of implementation of approved projects by UNDP.
Thematic Areas
The application should propose a solution in one of the areas determined by the competition for funding:
- Assistance to women in difficult life situations.
- Interaction with legislative and executive authorities and participation in the development and examination of the framework and strategic documents for achieving gender equality and empowering women.
- Interaction and coordination with governmental and non-governmental organisations in providing services to victims of sexual and domestic violence.
- Development of educational and training materials on the prevention of gender-based violence, improving women’s legal literacy and awareness of existing channels of assistance to victims of violence.
- Development of new IT solutions and the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to ensure the safety of women (including during COVID-19 pandemic).
- Data collection improvement to increase the quality of statistics on the prevalence of violence against women.
Funding Information
- The maximum amount of one grant is the equivalent of $4,000. The grant is disbursed in two tranches in local currency.
- The project implementation period is 3 months and is not subject to extension.
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-profit organisations registered in accordance with national legislation, including non-governmental and charitable organisations, research and training centres, professional associations, foundations, etc. in Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, are allowed to participate in the Grants Competition.
- Applicant organisations should operate in the field of providing services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, protecting the rights and interests of victims of violence, interacting with government agencies on the development of policies for gender equality, countering violence, eliminating harmful practices against women and girls, improving statistics on violence against women.
- When submitting the grant application, an organisation should have at least 2 years of experience and have financial and human resources to implement projects in the thematic areas of the Grants Competition.
- The grant application may represent a project that has already been completed or is currently being implemented (or a separate component of the project), including one financed by international and foreign donors or by public funds allocated on a competitive basis.
- Administrative expenses should not exceed 10% of the grant amount.
- Spotlight Initiative Regional Programme through UNDP in Kazakhstan reserves the right to monitor the expenditure of target funds and the project’s progress.
- The application should be submitted in the established standard form of a grant application (the form is attached).
- The project should be implemented (including case preparation, training and reporting) in the period September to November 2021.
