If you are aged between 18 and 30, live in Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam have an interest in how young people are combating climate change and other ecological threats, and want to be involved in making decisions, Global Fund for Children wants to hear from you!
Global Fund for Children is inviting youth participants to design and lead a new fund – supporting youth leadership focusing on environmental challenges. Far too often, youth-led groups and initiatives are overlooked by donors or face barriers to meeting funder requirements.
The Opportunity
You will join the panelist group of 10 to 15 youth representatives from Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore. The team will work together in shaping the Spark Fund in the region, and make a decision in selecting grantees for the initiative. Through your work the team will create impact in disseminating the importance of climate change resilience and promote youth participation in climate action. Joining the team provides the chance for you:
- To learn:
- inclusive grant making processes
- how to make decisions as individuals and a team
- working in a multicultural team.
- To act:
- as key persons in decision making process to select grantees who will receive funding from Southeast Asia Spark Fund
- exchange your perspective about the impact of environmental crises in your country or region
- promote youth participation in addressing environmental issues
- To connect:
- with youth change makers in Southeast Asia in both online and in person settings
- with global and regional experts on climate change and grant making
Recognition and Reimbursement
- All panelists will receive a digital certificate of participation and recognition on the website. This is a short-term voluntary role with an honorarium payment.
- GFC appreciates all of your time and experience in designing and delivering this Fund. As a form of recognition for this voluntary work, GFC will offer an honorarium payment of $300 USD to each panelist at the end of the panel process. You are not obliged to accept this payment.
What you will do?
- Collaborate with other panelists, Spark Fund representatives and panel facilitators.
- Review all materials and documents in advance of panel meeting discussions.
- Keep an open mind, use your judgement and engage in group discussions.
- Take part in reflective learning activities to tell them about your experience of participation.
- Share the Spark Fund selection process with youth-led groups and organisations in your network.
- Attend a safeguarding workshop.
- Be able to attend minimum of four design sessions and all decisions sessions.
- Get involved in telling people about the Spark Fund with them through communications and media channels.
What they are looking for?
- Young people aged 18 – 30 living in Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam (regardless of nationalities).
- An interest in youth-led change.
- An understanding of environmental challenges and their impact in your country or region, especially on children and youth.
- A willingness to work respectfully with other panelists, representing a broad spectrum of views and understandings of the way youth positively impact other children and young people and their communities.
- Motivation to work independently between panel meetings.
- They encourage applications from young people of all genders, including trans and non-binary young people. They particularly welcome applications from young people from marginalized and underrepresented communities impacted by environmental crises.
