The Colombo-German Institute for Peace (CAPAZ) has launched a call for applications for research projects on peace building in Colombia to promote the generation, dissemination, and exchange of academic knowledge by financing research projects on topics that contribute to peace building in Colombia, and to support Colombian-German cooperation in particular, and international cooperation in general around these research projects.
The Colombo-German Institute for Peace (CAPAZ) is an initiative funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by the German Exchange Service Academic (DAAD) for the support to the construction of peace in Colombia from a scientific-academic perspective.
The Institute develops research activities, teaching and consulting, which allow new approaches to understanding peace and conflict, transmit knowledge to society and propose responses to the multiple challenges of a society in transition.
Themes Areas
The call will finance research projects in the following thematic areas:
- Practices to build peace: This area investigates the dynamics taken by the practical actions implemented by different institutional and civil society actors, with the aim of contributing to building peace, especially from the regions of Colombia. Special attention will be given to issues of education for peace, historical memory and reform of the safety.
- Transitional justice and human rights: The area focuses on researching the design, implementation and monitoring of the legal and institutional mechanisms necessary for the definitive termination of the conflict Colombian armed forces and that achieves the maximum possible satisfaction of the rights of the victims.
- Peace, conflicts and territorial re-configurations: This area of research analyzes power relations and struggles around the territory,which result in different types of conflicts that affect the generation of violence and produce socio-economic inequalities. This area seeks to explain there configuration of the interests of the different actors involved in the construction of a stable and lasting peace in Colombia, incorporating the territory as a fundamental axis of articulation of conflicts.
Funding Information
- A maximum amount of € 5,000 (five thousand euros) will be awarded for each project.
Target groups
- Research groups from Colombia and Germany that have cooperative relations in both countries and that work on research topics related to peace-building in Colombia.
- This does not preclude the possibility of participation of research groups from other countries.
Selection Criteria
- Mandatory requirements
- The topics of the research proposals must be framed in one of the topics explained in the “Topics” section.
- The proposal must have the participation of a research institution from Colombia and one from Germany
- The proposal must have the participation of an institution of the partners founders or associate members of CAPAZ, as a minimum.
- The research proposal must propose at least one of the following products:
- Results that can be published in the format of scientific articles,work, policy briefs or analysis tools (databases for research, information systems for policy decision making public, etc.)
- Proposals for university teaching or training courses and training
- Holding academic or cultural events.
- Desirable requirements
- Participation of research institutions (universities, research centers research, regional thought centers) from regions other than Bogotá;
- Participation of representative institutions of the community where it could have incidence of the project (community organizations, local governments,research from civil society, peasant associations,women, etc.) or potential to develop academic relations or products five additional to those raised in the mandatory requirements.
