Deadline: 10-Jan-22
The Rights & Security International (RSI) is seeking proposals from legally registered charities in Brazil for new research on the impact of security laws and programs on civil society or movements for justice.
RSI is an international human rights organization that promotes people’s rights in the national security context. After defending rights in the UK for 30 years, they now seek to protect rights and hold governments to account around the world.
The Rise Coalition, which grant applicants may be invited to join, is a collection of civil society groups and human rights defenders around the world working together to promote human rights and end violations committed in the name of “security.” Rise Coalition members will share knowledge and ideas for creative strategies to defend human rights, protect civic space and seek accountability for rights violations.
Topics
They are looking for original research and analysis that will explain:
- The origins and nature of any harms to human rights arising from security policies;
- How civil society and groups in vulnerable situations are affected by governmental action on “security”;
- The laws, policies or programs involved;
- What government bodies or other decision-makers could do differently to uphold rights; and
- What the international community could do to help increase rights protections.
Funding Information
- Amount: They may award up to £3,500 to one successful applicant.
- Grant period: Your project can extend for up to 9 months. Your work on the project should begin by March 2022.

- The different narratives around “security” used by governments in Latin America to support the implementation of legislation and policies that affect civil society, human rights defenders or movements for justice.
- The shrinking of civic space (including online) in Latin America, and the impact of this on the activities of local civil society groups, human rights defenders or movements for justice.
