UNDP has launched a Call for Proposals for Civil Society Organizations(CSOs), Women’s and Youth Organizations to implement activities on Strengthening Peace, Reconciliation and Social Cohesion in Western Bahr El Ghazal and Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), South Sudan.
The objective of this call for proposal is to facilitate local communities to address negative community practices towards social cohesion; strengthen community structures to facilitate trauma healing and reconciliation; support socio-economic reintegration of youth former combatants and disarmed youth and to strengthen social cohesion through social, cultural and economic initiatives for women and youth to deepen relationships and offer alternatives to violent practices.
The aim of this call is to identify CSOs, women and youth groups with operational presence and capacities and working in Western Bahr El Ghazal and Greater Pibor Administrative Area, South Sudan to carry out the following activities in line with the above objective.
Specific Outputs, Activities and Deliverables
- Slot 1: To facilitate socio-economic reintegration of youth former combatants and disarmed youth in Western Bahr El Ghazal State (Budget is USD 237,874)
- The specific activities to be undertaken by the selected CSO are:
- Activity 1: Support 250 former combatants, Women Associated with Armed Forces and Armed Groups (WAAFAG), armed youth, youth at risk, returnees and communities of return for income- generating activities (through procurement of seeds, fishing and farming equipment for youth income generation activities.
- Activity 2: Provide transport to 100 ex-combatants returning to other locations in other states.
- Activity 3: Mobilize former combatants, youth and women, and members of communities of return and support their formation of and participation in a cooperative. (At least register 200 into a cooperative).
- Activity 4: Select at least 5 communities’ groups of former combatants, women and youth and local communities and form producer groups – each comprised of 20 members to undertake value addition of local products -(total of 100 beneficiaries).
- Activity 5: Set up micro-grants and micro-credit– for undertaking agriculture and other livelihood opportunities for former combatants, women and youth to start businesses/farming and agriculture, including but not limited to after training, and in connection with cooperatives, which may be used to support self-sustainability of micro-credit following conclusion of the project. (Note: A minimum of 300 persons and cooperatives – those in Activity 3 (200 beneficiaries) and Activity 4 (100 beneficiaries) to receive micro-grant/micro-credit.
- Note: Selection and Mobilization of participants will be done jointly with the DDRC State office
- Deliverables Expected:
- 250 former combatants, WAAFAG, armed youth, youth at risk, returnees and communities of return supported with income-generating activities.
- 100 ex-combatants supported to relocate from the cantonment sites to other states
- A cooperative with 200 members formed and trained.
- 5 producer community groups – each comprised of 20 members are formed and supported to undertake value addition of local products. 5. Provision of grants for start businesses/farming and agriculture, in connection with cooperatives for 300 beneficiaries.
- The specific activities to be undertaken by the selected CSO are:
- Slot 2: To facilitate socio-economic empowerment of voluntary disarmed youth and youth at risk of re-engagement in conflict in Greater Pibor Administrative Area (Budget is USD 90,000)
- The specific activities to be undertaken by the selected CSO are:
- Facilitate skills training to 100 youth to prepare them for income generation.
- Provide group grants to 100 youth for income generation as peace dividends.
- Facilitate 10 intergenerational dialogue among youth and leaders on peace, disarming the mind.
- Facilitate 10 trauma awareness workshops for youth.
- Deliverables per cluster:
- 100 youth trained and supported with income generation.
- At least 10 intergenerational dialogues conducted reaching over 250 youth.
- At least 10 trauma awareness workshops conducted reaching over 250 youth.
- The specific activities to be undertaken by the selected CSO are:
- Slot 3: To facilitate socio-economic empowerment of women in peacebuilding and decision making in Greater Pibor Administrative Area (Budget is USD 90,000)
- The specific activities to be undertaken by the selected CSO are:
- Facilitate skills training to 100 women on entrepreneurship, book-keeping, financial management and other related thematic areas to support income generation.
- Provide group grants to 100 women for income generation as peace dividends.
- Facilitate 10 intergenerational dialogue among women and leaders on women’s leadership on peace and community processes.
- Facilitate 10 trauma awareness workshops for women.
- Deliverables per cluster:
- 100 women trained and supported with income generation.
- At least 10 intergenerational dialogues conducted reaching over 250 women.
- At least 10 trauma awareness workshops conducted reaching over 250 women.
- NOTE: CSOs, women and youth organisation should choose and apply to one slot only.

Geographical focus of the project
The projects will be implemented in Western Bahr El Ghazal and GPAA, South Sudan. Note:
- The selected CSOs will work closely with the UNDP coordination field offices in the selected locations in order to harmonize their activities with the UNDP priorities and to ensure sustainability of initiatives undertaken.
- The selected CSOs will be expected to work with the established UNDP structures and infrastructures like the peace committees, youth and women centers, community markets and other ongoing UNDP projects in the respective areas to deliver the activities mention.
- Prior to the start of implementation, UNDP will hold meetings with the selected CSOs to jointly develop a common understanding and standard approaches to the implementation of the project.
- The selected CSOs will also be subjected to UNDP micro-assessment.
