The Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Niamey, invites study firms approved and in good standing vis-à-vis the public administration to bid to conduct a socio-economic study of urban refugees in Niamey, Niger.
Objectives
The socio-economic assessment exercise will include, but not be limited to, the following objectives:
- Provide comprehensive socio-economic data to inform strategy/programming to improve self-reliance for all refugees living in and around Niamey;
- Establish a baseline of key socio-economic indicators and a results monitoring/control framework;
- Provide a baseline for monitoring the results of the joint government-UNHCR economic inclusion strategy;
- Communicate with impact for the establishment of specific expertise partnerships for economic recovery ( Speaking with data).
Categories
They may include, but are not limited to:
- Livelihood assets (human, financial, social, physical and natural) and poverty status;
- Strengths of persons of concern to UNHCR , including educational skills, knowledge and work experience, competency-based behavioral abilities ( behavioral skills-based capacity )
- Wealth (income levels, expenses: types of levels by wealth groups); ownership of assets;
- Source of income (wage employment, self-employment/agriculture/business, remittances , humanitarian aid/CBI);
- Type of employment (formal/informal labor markets);
- Access to financial and banking services, other social services (health, education);
- Access to formal/informal training opportunities; (skills/VTC/entrepreneurship/trade, etc.)
- Household coping strategies and financial risk management strategies;
- Interest and motivation of the PoC to find salaried and/or self-employed employment;
- Factors that hinder participation in certain areas of work; labor market access and productivity;
- Market access/interaction with local economy;
- Protection risks incurred due to socio-economic vulnerabilities;
- Access to energy services for well-being and productivity
Deliverables
The main deliverable of this study will be a report written/prepared by a contractor and submitted to UNHCR no later than 1 month after the end date of the study. UNHCR, after analysis/review of the report, may make comments and request corrections or modifications before the submission of the final report.
