The Kawartha Conservation is currently seeking applications for the Community Grants Program.
The Water Fund is a grant program that provides financial and technical assistance to:
- Landowners for environmental projects on their land
- Organizations for community-focused environmental projects on publicly accessible land
Priority

Priority will be given to:
- Projects that are directly linked to the implementation of the local lake management plans
- Projects that are near-surface water, hydrologically sensitive areas (i.e. recharge areas, vulnerable aquifers)
- Organizations that have not previously received funding under this program
Project Types
- The Kawartha Water Fund community grant helps organizations implement recommendations from lake management plans within the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Examples include the following:
- Brochure printing/distribution
- Educational event/workshop
- Demonstration site
- Community native plant garden
- Community tree planting
- Aquatic plant management
- Invasive species management
- Lake health monitoring
Funding Information
- The Kawartha Water Fund is a cost-sharing program that provides 50% of the total project cost up to a maximum amount, dependent on available funding
Eligibility Criteria

An organization must function within:
- the City of Kawartha Lakes
- the boundary of Kawartha Conservation's Watershed OR an area not covered by another Conservation Authority
- Projects must demonstrate potential to maintain or improve water quality, water quantity, or aquatic and terrestrial habitats.

Funding approval is dependent upon available funds, project type, location, and priority. All proposals are subject to review/recommendation by the Kawartha Water Fund Review Committee before final funding approval or deferral by Kawartha Conservation. The Kawartha Water Fund Review Committee has the right to:
- Recommend funding to a project
- Refuse funding to a project
- Recommend funding, subject to conditions
- Recommend partial funding
- Defer funding
- Project proposals will be presented to the Kawartha Water Fund Review Committee on a confidential basis without the organization's name or location to ensure as much anonymity as possible.
- Before photos (if applicable) and a completed application must be submitted before the project commencement.
- If the proposed project requires access and/or alteration of land, permission from the landowner must be obtained before proposal submission. Proof of permission must be provided to Kawartha Conservation.
- All relevant permits must be obtained before project commencement.
- Any proposed work to wells must be completed by a licensed well contractor as per O. Reg. 903. Well upgrade projects as stipulated in O. Reg. 903 require a good tag and a good record.
- Agricultural water and sediment control structures (WASCoBs) must be designed and overseen by a certified engineer or erosion control structure designer following the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs standards.
