Deadline: 10-Sep-21
The Rozsa Foundation is pleased to launch the IBPOC Arts Leaders Residency Grant to support mid-career IBPOC artists and arts administrators who aspire to leadership roles in the arts (Artistic Directors, Executive Directors, Curators, Managing Directors, etc.) to undertake a year-long residency with an existing arts organization.
This grant stream supports a flexible approach to high-impact, leadership-focused learning, with direct mentorship from the artistic and/or executive leadership of the host organization. Organizations should ensure they have the ability and capacity to be able to support the resident in meeting their desired goals and can speak to the points and questions.
Funding Information
- The IBPOC Arts Leaders Residency Grant provides $20,000 to support a part-time position for one year. By design, this is intended to create a long-term relationship while leaving space for the resident to continue their existing artistic/ administrative practice outside of the host organization throughout the residency, as applicable.
- Host organizations are required to cover mandatory employment related costs (CPP, EI), and to provide additional wages to meet the scope of the designed residency, if necessary. The grant and the host organization’s contribution should provide a wage of at least $20-$25/hour. The total duration and number of hours should be co-designed to best meet the resident’s goals.
Eligible Projects
When applying for a Residency Grant, the resident and the host organization(s) should collaborate to address the following in the project description:
- What are the resident’s goals over the course of the residency, and why does the resident feel the applicant organization is a good fit to support the realization of those goals?
- How will the residency help support the career goals and ongoing learning of the individual?
- What commitments has the organization made to address issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion within their organization, board, and staff? Have any training opportunities been sought?
- How will the organization ensure the safety & respect of the resident and what infrastructure exists in support of this?
- How will the residency contribute to the internal capacity, learning, and resiliency of the organization?
- What plans are in place to create a meaningful residency given the uncertain nature of in-person work in 2021?
- The organization should provide a residency plan, including who will be supporting & mentoring the resident in their work, and a proposed timeline and workload overview. The expectation is that the artistic and/or executive leadership of the host organization are the primary mentors throughout the residency.
Additional Points
- It is possible for multiple organizations to apply in partnership with one another if at least one of the partner organizations is IBPOC-led and a clear rationale of the benefit behind a shared residence is provided. Only the applicant organization needs to be a registered charity.
- The Rozsa Foundation will provide external mechanisms for addressing conflict resolution or mediation that arise as part of a residency to protect the resident from reprisal.
- The Rozsa Foundation will provide opportunities for residents to meet as a cohort, without organizational representatives, as well as to access other relevant networking opportunities.
- The Foundation also recommend building in some time to provide the resident access to their own networks and/or communities of support as a part of their work schedule.
- Residencies should be completed within eighteen months from notification of funding.
- As part of the final evaluation, the host organization will be asked to identify what learnings emerged from the residency that will be carried forward.
Eligibility Criteria
The following requirements apply to all Rozsa Foundation granting streams:
- You must be a charity with a valid CRA charitable business number (9 digits, 2 letters, 4 digits).
