Applications are now open for the Family Treatment Court Training and Technical Assistance Program to support training and technical assistance to state courts, local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized Tribal governments that will build their capacity to develop, maintain, and enhance family treatment courts to more effectively address the needs of parents, children, and families affected by a substance use and/or cooccurring mental health disorder.
The funding aims to enhance access to evidence-based prevention and treatment services as communities develop and implement coordinated substance use intervention programs.
Program Goals and Objectives
- Goal 1: Support FTC practitioners to develop, maintain, and enhance FTCs to more effectively address the needs of families and their children affected by a substance use and/or cooccurring mental health disorder who are also involved in the child welfare system.
- Objective 1: Support grantees funded under the OJJDP Family Treatment Court Program, as well as non-OJJDP-funded courts, in building program capacity, assessing needs, strategic planning, implementation of appropriate program improvements, program evaluation, and sustainability
- Objective 2: Ensure FTC practitioners have access to specialized training opportunities, practice tools, standards, guidelines, protocols, resources, and publications.
- Objective 3: Coordinate and collaborate with other OJJDP TTA providers, including Opioid Affected Youth Initiative TTA, Tribal Youth Center, and Juvenile Drug Treatment Courts TTA, to help program sites develop and implement effective, data-driven responses to substance misuse and provide services that improve outcomes for impacted children, youth, and families.
- Goal 2: Help FTCs improve service delivery and build sustainable capacity by creating opportunities for peer-to-peer connection.
- Objective 1: Coordinate peer-to-peer learning among Tribal, local, county, and statewide FTCs to promote problem-solving and innovation through the exchange of information and ideas.
- Objective 2: Identify, describe, and document best practices and lessons learned regarding FTC implementation, enhancement, and state-level initiatives to share with the field.
