The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation is seeking applications for its initiative titled “Restructuring and Improvement of the Department of Maternal and Child Health”.
The objective is to improve maternal, neonatal and child health, as well as the nutritional status of women and children in the first 1,000 days of life, by intervening on both basic and specialist health services. The needs identified at the Orotta Hospital concern various aspects such as:
- Lack of health infrastructure: Orotta Hospital needs the restructuring of the department maternal and child hospital of Orotta Hospital in Asmara
- Human Resources: Orotta Hospital needs qualified healthcare personnel, including doctors, nurses, health technicians and maternal and child professionals
- Access to Medicines and Medical Equipment: Orotta Hospital requires medicines, consumables and biomedical supplies for the maternal and child department of Orotta Hospital in Asmara
- Training and Development: launch training activities aimed at medical and non-specialist personnel. Attention will also be paid to training focused on the rights of pregnant women, on their needs and requirements
- Gender barriers in accessing reproductive health: and lack of support and information that manifest themselves mainly through social and cultural norms that limit women’s control over decisions regarding their bodies and health
Objectives
- Contribute to reducing maternal, prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and neonatal mortality and morbidity neonatal in Eritrea
- Improve the quality and access to maternal and pre and post-natal care by strengthening the maternal and child department of the Orotta Hospital in Asmara, through infrastructural interventions, training of medical and nursing staff, in order to reduce neonatal mortality and morbidity and improve health outcomes for minors in the first 1,000 days of life, as well as prevent and combat child malnutrition.
Goals
- Defeat hunger: By 2030, eliminate all forms of malnutrition, including achieving, by 2025, the internationally agreed targets on stunting and wasting in children under 5 years of age, and meet the nutritional needs of adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women and older persons
- Health and well-being:
- By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100 000 live births. By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with the aim of reducing neonatal mortality to no more than 12 per 1 000 live births and for children under 5 years of age, reducing mortality to no more than 25 per 1 000 live births.
- By 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health care services.
- Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls: Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, as agreed in the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action and documents produced at subsequent conferences.
Funding Information
- Grant amount: 2.000.000,00.
- Duration: The initiative is expected to last 24 months.
Expected Outcomes
- The maternal and child department at the Orotta Hospital in Asmara is rehabilitated
- The maternal and child department is made operational and equipped with all the necessary medical equipment, medical furnishings and medicines and nutritional packages
- The dedicated medical and technical nursing staff is trained and autonomous with regard to the management and provision of specialist services in the field of maternal and child health and in the nutritional and hygiene fields.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only CSOs which, on the date of publication, are eligible to participate in the selection procedure of the Notice:
- Are registered in the List of Civil Society Organizations and other entities without the purpose of profit pursuant to art. 26, paragraph 3, of Law 125/2014;
- Are not in debt to public administrations for certain, liquid and collectible debts, including debt situations arising from provisions for the revocation of contributions for projects promoted and/or entrusted and/or for humanitarian aid;
- They are not in a state of bankruptcy, are not subject to insolvency or liquidation proceedings, where the assets are administered by a liquidator or a judge, or where there is an agreement with the creditors, or where the activities are suspended, or any other similar situation provided for by national law;
- Are up to date with the payment of taxes or social security and welfare contributions required by the national legislation in force or by the legislation in force in the country in which the contract is executed.
