Deadline: 19-May-22
The programme for Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change is now issuing a call for proposals for research projects.
Climate change will affect agriculture and influence food and feed security in the Nordic and Baltic regions in several ways. Some consequences can be positive, such as a longer growing season or an increase in CO2 to stimulate photosynthesis, while others, such as increased CO2 emissions due to an increase in respiration, drought, floods, or influx of new pests and diseases, will have a negative effect. Consumer demands are expected to change, resulting in an increased demand for locally produced plant-based agricultural products produced in an environmentally and climate-friendly way. Climate change and diversified market demand are a global trend.
The aim of the Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change programme is to promote cooperation between the knowledge communities in the participating countries and to enhance opportunities and address challenges relating to sustainable agriculture.
The main objectives of the programme are to strengthen research collaboration between the participating countries and to fund excellent research with impact within and beyond academia. The programme seeks to develop research networks in the region to produce innovative analyses and methods and essential knowledge for successful implementation.
The programme aims at interdisciplinary projects that combine disciplines, which rarely collaborate, or that pursue an original research question that demands the exact combination of competencies from different disciplines proposed in the application. Also, the programme strives to support the next generation of researchers and their mobility.
Thematic Framework
The funding parties have identified four thematic areas of the programme:
- Plants adapted for future Nordic and Baltic conditions
- Increased local and regional protein production for food and feed
- Plants and soil as a carbon sink
- Transformation towards climate-smart and profitable local and regional agriculture
Funding Information
- Available budget is approx. NOK 60 million
- The maximum amount of funding that may be applied for: NOK 10 million
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible, proposals must meet the following criteria:
- Proposals must be submitted electronically using the NordForsk application portal by the call deadline.
- All proposals must be written in English and follow the structure set out in the proposal form available on the NordForsk call and application portal.
- The research project must include partner research-performing organizations * in at least three participating countries, of which at least two must be Nordic countries. Nordic-Baltic co-operation is encouraged. Research-performing organizations from outside the participating countries may contribute their own funding.
- The host institution (project owner) for the research project must be a research-performing organization based in one of the countries co-funding the call: Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, or Sweden.
- The project leader must be a qualified researcher at the host institution.
- A researcher may only serve as project leader for one proposal under this call. However, research institutions may be affiliated with more than one proposal. If a researcher submits more than one proposal as a project leader, the NordForsk administration will consider only the first application submitted.
- Researchers and research groups must be based in a research-performing organization.
- The proposal must include a signed letter of commitment from each partner institution. Letters of commitment must be signed by a person authorized to take on financial commitments on behalf of the institution for the entire duration of the project.
- Applicants and project participants must comply with national rules.
