The Department of Family Services is accepting proposals for projects in 2022-2023 to support community-based childrearing programs and aim to rebuild and strengthen Inuit traditional childrearing teachings and practices.
Objectives
The purpose of the Childrearing Community funding Initiatives that:
- Support and recognize parents, guardians and caregivers as a child’s first and most important teacher.
- Increase access for parents, guardians and caregivers to supports, tools, networks and wellness opportunities through which they can rebuild and strengthen Inuit childrearing teachings and practices.
- Expected outcomes from community parenting projects would ultimately be children are able to grow and learn in stronger, healthier, and self-reliant communities.
Eligible Projects
- revitalize the wisdom and practices of Inunnguiniq;
- Support healing and wellness for parents/guardians and their families;
- strengthen the roles of family and community in childrearing;
- develop supports targeted at fathers;
- develop supports for single mothers;
- develop and or enhance parenting support networks;
- support the development of parenting skills; and/or
- support home visiting or parent mentorship
- help reduce poverty
- help build self-reliance
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants include Nunavut based community not-for-profit organizations, Municipal corporations and businesses.
Ineligible Expenses
The following expenses will NOT be considered for funding:
- Capital projects;
- Building operation and maintenance costs
- Projects that will be implemented outside of Nunavut.
- Daycare/Preschool operations
