The City of Perth is seeking applications for its Business Improvement Grants that aims to provide businesses with the ability to generate new ideas and turn those ideas into profitable business ventures which is critical to drive Perth’s COVID-19 rebound, competitive advantage and economic growth.
In 2022/23, the Business Improvement Grant program will prioritise projects that are external facing and/or activate underutilised spaces.
Funding Information
- Grants of up to $20,000 (with matched funding by applicant) will be considered in one competitive funding round in the 2022/23 financial year, for business improvement projects within the City of Perth local government area.
- The maximum contribution the City can provide is 50% of the project cost (within the $20,000 funding limit) with the other 50% being matched funding. i.e. to be eligible for $20,000, the total eligible project costs need to be at least $40,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to receive grant funding from the City, the applicant must:
- be a legally constituted entity, or an individual or business with an Australian Business Number (ABN);

have a demonstrated investment in the city such as:
- a commercial property lease arrangement within the City of Perth local government area, extending at least two years from the time the application is submitted (e.g. if the application is submitted on 30 May 2022, the lease agreement of the space needs to be until at least the 30 May 2024 and beyond); or
- ownership of a property located within the City of Perth local government area, who is undertaking development to attract business tenants and employment outcomes for the city;
- have all appropriate insurances, permits and licenses or can demonstrate that all relevant paperwork for these processes have been lodged with the relevant authorities including and not limited to the City of Perth’s relevant departments (development, planning, building and health approvals);
- have submitted the application prior to the project commencement date to ensure the City and Council has sufficient time to enable consideration;
- offer a project or initiative within the City of Perth local government area; and
- demonstrate financial viability without the City’s funding (e.g. the applicant is able to provide evidence such a bank statements to demonstrate the business has the cash flow to undertake and fund the entire project or initiative upfront (this grant is paid upon completion of the project or initiative).
