The City of West Hollywood is seeking applications for its One City One Pride Grant to recognize and champion the history and diversity of the local LGBTQ community; to engage residents and visitors with a deeper understanding of the LGBTQ experience through exhibits, film and theatre; to attract cultural tourists to the City during Pride season; to provide accessible arts programming for residents and visitors to West Hollywood; and to encourage artists and organizations to create innovative programming that enhances the reputation of West Hollywood as an “Arts City.”
The 2022 theme is With Liberty, Diversity, Inclusion, and Progress For All.
Objectives
The City has identified the following objectives for all One City One Pride grants:
- To recognize, document, and champion the history and diversity of the local LGBTQ+ community.
- To engage residents and visitors with a deeper understanding of the LGBTQ+ experience through exhibits, film and theatre.
- To attract cultural tourists to the City during Pride season.
- To provide free and accessible arts programming for residents of and visitors to West Hollywood.
- To encourage artists and organizations to create innovative programming that enhances the reputation of West Hollywood as an “Arts City.”
- The One City One Pride theme for 2022 is With Liberty, Diversity, Inclusion, and Progress For All and applications will be reviewed with a curatorial eye toward the creative and innovative use of this theme in proposed projects.
Funding Information
- $35,000 Total amount of available funding in this category per year
- $ 6,500 Maximum award per applicant per calendar year
Eligibility Criteria
- They invite and encourage artists and organizations representing diverse populations and diverse artistic disciplines to apply for these grants. As stated in their Cultural Equity Statement, the City of West Hollywood’s Arts Division and Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission’s definition of diversity includes all ways in which people differ, including but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, education, age, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, geography, citizenship status, religion, language, physical appearance, and the intersection of these various identities. They commit to ensuring cultural equity in all arts policies and practices.
- To be eligible for consideration, applicants must satisfy all the following requirements:
- Applicants must plan to hold an art exhibit, performance, or other art project somewhere within the City of West Hollywood or immediately adjacent (within 5 blocks of the border of West Hollywood) within the One City One Pride dates of May 23 to June 30. Online presentations may be acceptable if they are marketed strongly towards West Hollywood residents and constituents.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate significant commitment to and involvement with the West Hollywood community and/or LGBTQ+ community.
- Applicants awarded a One City One Pride Grant are required to submit confirmed information regarding the location, date, time, event-related images, and a website link for more information by April 1, 2022, via the online Media Advisory. Failure to submit information by April 1, 2022, may result forfeiture of the grant.
- Applicants may only receive funding from one grant category each calendar year.
- If the applicant is already receiving funding from another City Division or Department, or is cosponsored by a City Council office, they are not eligible for an Arts Grant for that same project or program.
- City of West Hollywood elected and appointed officials, its employees and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply.
- Proposed projects may not include fundraisers, capital campaigns, murals, or religious-based programs/events.
- Applicants must submit an online application by the deadline.
