The Community Foundation of Mendocino County is pleased to launch the COVID-19 Non-Profit Relief Grant to to mitigate some of the unique difficulties faced by the non-profit sector in Mendocino County.
Funding Priorities
Consideration is given to organizations who meet the following criteria:
- Have a demonstrated reduction in funding and/or increased demand for services due to impacts from COVID-19; and
- Have a plan for adapting or maintaining services now or in the future including adherence to applicable county or state guidance.

- Total available: $100,000
- Grant range: $5,000 – $7,500
Eligibility Criteria
If you received a Field-of-Interest grant earlier in the year, your organization is still eligible to apply to this round of funding, provided you complete an interim report prior to the deadline. City and county entities will be considered on a request-by-request basis. All other applicant organizations must:
- serve residents of Mendocino County. Applicants not headquartered in Mendocino County must ensure that all grant dollars requested are spent within the County;
- be legally chartered in California and in possession of determination letter from the IRS declaring the organization a public charity that is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3); or be a school district, tribe, or special district (e.g. community services, recreation, fire protection); or have an aligned mission with a fiscal sponsor;
- have two years of operational history; and
- conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, or religious affiliation.
Criteria
Grants will be made to eligible Mendocino County non-profit organizations in the following three areas:
- Adaptation grants will assist organizations to adapt new technology or pivot programs to adjust to new demands. This could include, but is not limited to, equipment, technology, or software to change program delivery methods; improvements in physical plants to accommodate social distancing requirements; pilot projects that pioneer new methods or programs in response to current circumstances; training for staff in utilizing new technologies or protocols; or personal protective equipment for staff or clients.
- Operations grants will assist organizations with fixed operational costs impacted by COVID-19 related facility closures.
- Preservation grants will assist organizations of social, cultural, or historical importance to preserve their legacy into the future. Grants could include, but are not limited to, archiving records or organizational history; consultants to support key board or staff transitions; supporting new methods of volunteer recruitment; or, assistance for merging or closing organizations to ensure that the legacy of the work is maintained.
