Unlocking Capacity is a stream of the Victorian Independent Producers Initiative (VIPI), a Victorian Government program run in partnership with Theatre Network Australia, designed to strengthen the independent performing arts sector by supporting Victorian independent producers and up skilling the artists and organizations who engage their services.
Unlocking Capacity offers producers a multi-year grant of up to $35,000 per annum for up to three years to support targeted skills development activities. The multi-year funding aims to enable producers to “unlock” their capacity build their skills and networks and develop a sustainable practice.
This program encourages applications from producers who identify as First Peoples, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, people living with a disability and regionally-based producers.
Unlocking Capacity aims to:
- Improve the career opportunities of independent producers in Victoria and the sustainability of their practice.
- Increase support for diverse practitioners (e.g. First Peoples, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people, people living with a disability and people based regionally);
- Increase opportunities for Victorian artists to work with, and be supported by, independent producers.
- Increase the reputation of Victoria and Victorian performing arts producers – internationally and nationally; and
- Increase the amount of work represented by Victorian performing arts producers through market development opportunities.
Funding Information
- Applications will be accepted for requests of up to $35,000 per annum, or up to $105,000 for a funded period of up to 3 years. It is anticipated that Creative Victoria funding will support up to nine multi-year Unlocking Capacity grants available between 2020 and 2023.
- The Unlocking Capacity grant can be used for the producer’s wage and professional development activities that will enable you to maintain and deepen your professional support of Victorian-based independent artists and independent companies.
- During the funded period, applicants can apply for other Creative Victoria project grants to support fees for artists, production and project costs. Please speak with Creative Victoria program staff.
Who can apply?
- Victorian-based independent producers of performing arts who have a minimum three years of experience in independent producing. At least 50% of your professional time is dedicated to your independent producing practice. Your producing portfolio must comprise of 50% Victorian artists.
