Auckland Council has launched Cultural Initiatives Fund – Marae Development Grant that aims to enable marae to become self-sustaining and prosperous hubs for Maori and the wider community.

- $0 – $170,000
Outcomes
- To enable thriving and self-sustaining marae as cultural hubs within their communities.
- The assist marae to develop strategic, asset, and financial management planning systems.
- The support marae to deliver self-sustaining initiatives which support their day-to-day operation.
- The core infrastructure of the existing marae is healthy and safe.

Marae infrastructure:
- is resilient
- enables manaakitanga to meet the needs of their iwi, hapu, and whanau, and wider communities.
Eligibility Criteria
- be a Mana Whenua or mataawaka marae
- be a trust, authority or other formally recognized body, or be a Maori Reservation
- have appropriate governance and management structures, policies, and processes in place
- be not for profit.

This fund is not available to:
- individuals
- groups with no formal legal structure
- groups that are for-profit / commercial gain
- institutional marae specifically associated with:
- a school, polytechnic, or university
- a church
- a branch of the armed forces
- a social service provider
- any other institution.
