Deadline: 6-Dec-21
Do you believe that the wounds of racism can and must be healed? Are you committed to transcending politics and building mutually respectful relationships across racial and ethnic lines? Do you believe that health inequities can and must be eliminated? Are you working in your community to make these changes a reality? If your answer is yes, then you must look for this Culture of Health Leadership Institute for Racial Healing Program.
Culture of Health Leadership Institute for Racial Healing is an 18-month leadership experience supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that uses the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) framework to strengthen the ecosystem of practitioners who are advancing racial and health equity in their work.
This is an opportunity to connect with a national community of like-minded people so that you can be nurtured in this work, support and serve as a resource to others, and gain tools and resources to hold public officials and private sector leaders more accountable for real progress.
Program participants will experience:
- Monthly virtual learning opportunities with peers and other experts doing work aligned with the TRHT framework;
- Individualized coaching;
- Peer learning and sharing opportunities; and
- Retreats focused on fostering deep connection with other practitioners doing complementary work.

- An initial $30,000 award for your participation in the program and an additional $35,000 in flexible funding to advance the participant’s work upon meeting related program requirements (total of $65,000)
- Grounding in the TRHT framework and opportunities to apply the framework to real life challenges in your community
- Coaching to build participants’ capacity, assist with strategy planning, and professional development goals

Eligibility Criteria
- This structured 18-month program is for practitioners doing work related to one or more of the pillars of the TRHT framework who are highly motivated and ready to learn, lead, and collaborate with a national and expanding community of practice to build a Culture of Health. They acknowledge that a Culture of Health and a culture of embedded racism cannot co-exist. The TRHT framework depicts a comprehensive approach to addressing racism as both a belief system that’s embedded and a structural legacy that requires a collective effort to overcome. Examples of types of work that are aligned with the TRHT framework, but should not be seen as exhaustive:

- Racial healing and relationship building–including the work of racial healing practitioners, circle facilitators, community bridge builders, faith leaders, local civic leaders, etc.
- Community, research or policy work in areas that address separation (health, education, housing, segregation, immigration and migration, etc.), the law and democracy (voting rights, policing, incarceration, juvenile justice, etc.) and/or the economy (labor, employment, workforce development, wealth-building, etc.)
- Successful participants are individuals who:
- Believe passionately in social and racial justice, integrity, authenticity, collaboration, reflection, imagination, and transformation
- Have been addressing the effects of structural racism in their communities, organization, and/or field for at least three years in ways that have strong potential for significant and far-reaching community impact
- Demonstrate a collaborative, innovative, and solutions-oriented approach to their work
- Are open, deep listeners seeking opportunities for brave, meaningful discussions of sustainable solutions to critical social problems
- Have experience building connections, visioning, and strategizing with others from different racial and ethnic, socioeconomic, and/or geographic backgrounds
- Other Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must be at least 21 years old as of May 1, 2022.
- Federal, state, tribal and local government employees are eligible to apply unless they are considered government officials of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or individuals granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services at the time of application. As federal policy or laws change, they may need to consider adjustments in eligibility and award terms.
