The United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the Office of Public Affairs, is pleased to announce a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Democracy Commission Small Grants Program.
This program supports NGO efforts to develop grassroots democracy and viable civil society in BiH This program aims to improve the institutions of government and increase a sense of civic identity in BiH society. Proposals that go beyond awareness building to create behavior change and action will be particularly competitive. The Commission welcomes proposals that are creative and will lead to citizen engagement.
This program aims eventually to result in strong, credible government institutions that are accountable to the citizenry, citizen engagement in grass roots democracy, and self-identity as citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Project Themes
Projects should deal with one of the following themes
- Anti-corruption
- Euro-Atlantic integration, with focus on the 14 key priority reforms identified by the EU Commission on pages 14-16 of its opinion on BiH.
- Democratic political processes, in particular projects that will bring about more transparent and accountable institutions, more involvement by citizens in civic life, or more equitable participation in politics by marginalized groups.
Funding Information
- Length of Performance Period: 12 months
- Number of Awards Anticipated: At least 14 depending on amount of each grant
- Award Amounts: Awards may range from USD 1,000 to USD 50,000
- Total Available Funding: USD 500,000
Participants And Audiences: Civil society, media, government. They specially encourage civil society organizations from smaller and remote communities to apply for this program.
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-government, non-profit organizations (including think tanks, civil society organizations), educational institutions and independent media that are based and legally registered in Bosnia and Herzegovina are eligible to apply. American or other donor country organizations and individuals are not eligible for grants under this program. Grants are generally awarded only to organizations.
- All organizations must have DUNS unique entity identifier and a valid registration on SAM.gov before their projects proposals can be funded. Organization must obtain a DUNS number and SAM registration to receive funding.
