Applications are now open for the Direct Aid Program (DAP) to support projects with a strong development focus that complements Australia’s broader aid program which contributes to sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction.
The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a flexible and competitive small grants program funded by the Australian Government and managed through the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade’s (DFAT) overseas posts. DAP projects should promote a distinctive and positive image of Australia
The bilateral development programming is focussed on:
- Support for governance and reform agendas that foster inclusive economic growth;
- Improved livelihoods, including through employment opportunities for disadvantaged Sri Lankans;
- Support for human resource development and development leadership through Australia Awards scholarships; and
- Provision of humanitarian assistance in response to food insecurity, health and protection issues.
Funding Information
- Proposals to have a maximum cost of AUD 80,000 and a specified duration of up to two years.
Preference will be given to projects that address one or more of the following:
- Enhance community resilience to the impact of climate change, prioritising prevention, and risk reduction.
- Support local efforts to strengthen reconciliation and build peaceful and resilient communities.
- Support efforts to deepen women’s economic empowerment and/or preventing sexual and gender-based violence.
- Improve disability equity and rights, particularly through support to people with disabilities.
Eligible Projects
- All projects proposals funded under DAP must:
- Qualify as Official Development Assistance (ODA).
- Be from a legally registered community group or local non-government organisation (NGO) academic body, independent institution or association (projects cannot be submitted by individuals), based in Sri Lanka.
- Be received by 09 February 2024, 5 PM (Sri Lanka Time).
- The project start date is approximately 1 July 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
- DAP is available on a not-for-profit basis to legally registered community groups, local nongovernment organisations (NGOs), academic bodies, independent institutions, or associations (projects cannot be submitted by individuals), based in Sri Lanka. The full proposal can only be applied by organisations that submitted short-listed concept notes.
Ineligible
- They will generally not fund the following:
- Cash grants or micro-credit schemes or projects that involve the return of money
- Commercial ventures
- Purchase of major assets, e.g. vehicles
- Australian or overseas study tours
- International travel
- Sponsorship of major sporting tournaments or cultural displays that do not have a clear developmental benefit.
- The administration cost for the organisation must be less than 10% of the value of the project. DAP will not fund general salaries, rent, or other overheads of NGOs outside of the 10% maximum administration cost. Project costs including program staff salaries related to the project will be funded.
