Applications are now open for the Direct Aid Program to support small-scale sustainable development projects and activities within their groups or communities.
The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a flexible, small grants scheme available to non-government organizations and community groups.
Preference in funding will be given to projects addressing the following:
- Education (e.g., basic education, teacher training and workshops)
- Health (e.g., improving access, community preventative health education campaigns)
- Women (e.g., skills training for income generation, addressing gender issues)
- Youth (e.g., training in job and life skills)
- Minorities and disadvantaged groups
- Environment (e.g., recycling, environmental health awareness)
- Community development (e.g., training/organizational strengthening in planning, leadership, and project management.
Development Sectors and Strategic Policy Priorities
- Health
- Public health
- Community water and sanitation
- Preventing non-communicable diseases (e.g. diabetes, heart disease)
- Environment protection (including climate resilience and adaptation)
- Education
- Especially projects improving basic skills of reading, writing and maths
- Gender
- Equity
- Female and child safety
- Economic progress
- Poverty reduction
- Employment and work skills
- Commencing small businesses where applicants and their communities will make a contribution in labour, materials, transport or cash
Funding Information
- Funding limit of grants is USD$20,000.00 per application.
Target Groups and Locations
- Groups: Preference will be given to projects addressing the needs of women, children or disabled persons, people in poverty, especially where they are affected by humanitarian hardship or inequality
- Locations: The four (4) states of Federated States of Micronesia: Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap and Kosrae, including each FSM state’s outer islands and remote areas where risk management considerations can be satisfied.

- Individuals, government agencies and non-government organisations
Ineligible
- Generally, the following costs will not be funded:
- Micro-credit schemes or loans
- Staff salaries, consultant fees, allowances, accommodation expenses
- Purchases or rentals of land, assets or other property
- Major sporting tournaments or cultural displays that don’t have a clear development benefit.
- Landscaping and other cosmetic work around town squares and other public buildings
- Start-up capital or seed money
- Staffing or sitting fees
- Household effects and personal items
- Fundraising, donations, or prizes
- Applications from private individuals
