Outcomes
Program outcomes could include but are not limited to:
- Increased awareness and understanding among government officials, security and law enforcement, and legal actors of the value and importance of human rights, mutual respect, and inclusion for all persons, regardless of one’s religion, beliefs, or non-belief;
- Government stakeholders, legal actors, and law enforcement build working relationships with religious rights activists and community actors, including those from minority religions, belief or non-belief communities and individuals;
- Governments and law enforcement are responsive to advocacy to protect freedom of religions, beliefs, or non-belief;
- Persons from all religions, beliefs, and non-belief have equitable access to legal services;
- Government, security and legal actors reduce discriminatory laws and practices.
Illustrative Activities
Illustrative activities may include:
- Providing training to government, judicial, and law enforcement actors on the national and international legal framework on freedom of religion or belief to improve implementation of laws and provide access to justice for all citizens, including members of religious minorities;
- Engaging with law enforcement or government officials to address community concerns to reduce and prevent mob violence;
- Convene multi-stakeholder policy dialogues with civil society, legal experts, government officials, faith-based organizations, and believers and non-believers on religious freedom to counter mob-violence and discrimination issues.
- Undertaking trial monitoring and observation of religious freedom cases, including land ownership, forced eviction disputes, and other religious discrimination issues, to highlight to national, regional and international stakeholders potential legal or policy solutions to limit discrimination.
Eligibility Criteria
DRL welcomes applications from U.S.-based and foreign-based non-profit organizations/nongovernment organizations (NGO) and public international organizations; private, public, or state institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations or businesses. DRL’s preference is to work with non-profit entities; however, there may be some occasions when a for-profit entity is best suited.
