The Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) is seeking applications for its Early Care and Education Wrap Around Grant Program to help fund early care and education wrap-around services for children birth to age eight from underserved and diverse populations.
SMIF received funding from the Minnesota Department of Education on behalf of the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund. This is for the purpose of distributing funding for wrap-around early care and education services (serving children birth to age eight) directed toward underserved populations in SMIF’s 20-county region.
Funding Information
Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation anticipates awarding approximately $200,000 in grants with individual requests up to $20,000. This funding pool will support projects that can be completed in a one-year period.
Allowable Uses
Allowable uses include (all in the early care range of birth to age eight):
- Mental health services and supports
- Social, emotional, and physical health
- Supplemental after-school programs
- Online/distance learning programs
- Training and development to more effectively operate and address the needs of young children birth to age eight
- Other activities necessary to maintain the operation of and continuity of services in early care and education prioritizing the needs of historically underserved groups
Eligibility Criteria
- Only one application per organization will be considered
- Proposals must be submitted by an independent 501(c)(3) organization, a unit/agency of government or a public institution. Schools that provide wrap around early care and education services and supports and/or are serving as a fiscal agent for these services are eligible
- Projects must be focused on supporting underserved & diverse populations
- Applicants must be located in SMIF’s 20-county region and demonstrate benefit to the region
- Projects must be completed within one year of the grant award date
Exclusions
Ineligible organizations or activities include:
- Individuals, businesses, or other for-profit organizations
- Nonprofit organizations other than IRS-designated 501(c)(3) organizations
- General operating expenses
- Capital funding, campaigns or endowments
- Funds for re-granting or loan pools
- Organizations that have an “open” cash grant with SMIF or have not satisfied a grant obligation within the past 12 months
