The Education Residencies Program is offered in partnership with the Tasmanian Government’s Department for Education, Children and Young People.
It provides opportunities for:
- Tasmanian artists to focus on their practice in an educational environment
- young people and their families to engage with the arts
- teachers to be introduced to new ideas and approaches.
- Artists are not expected or required to work on specific projects for the school or teach students directly.
- Residencies are available across Tasmania. Schools are selected in discussion with the Department for Education, Children and Young People, and matched to the artists requirements and preferred region (where possible).
Funding Information
- There are eight $10,000 residencies available in this round, with two residencies supported by the Department for Education, Children and Young People.
What are the different residency types on offer?

Aboriginal artist residency
- These residencies support Aboriginal artists to work in primary or secondary schools with a higher proportion of Aboriginal students.
- Two $10,000 Aboriginal artist residencies are available in this round.

Regional primary school residency
- These residencies support artists to work in regional primary schools.
- Two $10,000 regional primary school residencies are available in this round.

Secondary school or college residency
- These residencies support artists to work in secondary schools or colleges.
- Four $10,000 secondary school or college residencies are available in this round.
Eligibility Criteria
- Arts Tasmania accepts applications from individuals, groups and organisations.

Individuals and groups
- If you are applying as an individual, you must be a practicing artist or arts worker who has been resident in Tasmania for six of the past twelve months.
- Groups must have at least one Tasmanian member.
- Students are eligible to apply for grants. However, any activity that is part of a course or contributes to course assessment is not eligible for funding.
- If you have received a grant from Arts Tasmania in the past and that grant has not been acquitted, you will not be eligible to apply to Arts Tasmania until your acquittal is accepted.

Organisations
- Organisations must be registered under law (an incorporated association, or a company limited by guarantee) or created by law (a government statutory authority).
- Organisations that are not based in Tasmania may apply to certain programs for activities that benefit Tasmanian artists or audiences.
- Organisations in receipt of multi-year operational support from Arts Tasmania are not eligible to apply to other Arts Tasmania programs for the term of the agreement.
- Tasmanian or Federal Government departments and government business enterprises are not eligible to apply to Arts Tasmania.
What can you apply for?
- Funding is available for artist-led activities, projects or programs that start after the program notification date. Activities funded may include professional development, mentorships, and national and international collaborations. Costs associated with administering or participating in prizes, awards and competitions are not eligible for funding.

- Arts Tasmania supports activities that are artist-led.

- Arts Tasmania supports museums, galleries and collections to deliver a range of activities that strengthen Tasmania's cultural heritage sector.

Capital works

Financial assistance for capital works or the purchase of assets or equipment is limited to the following programs:
- The FIND Contemporary Jewellery Collective Bursary (for individuals)
- Vita Brown Bequest Bursary (for individuals)
- Low-interest Loans (for individuals and organisations).

Ineligible

The following organisations are in receipt of administered funding from the Tasmanian Government and are not eligible to apply to Arts Tasmania’s programs:
- The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery
- The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra
- Ten Days on the Island
- The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery
- The Theatre Royal Management Board may apply to Arts Tasmania’s programs for support towards its artistic program.
- If you or your organisation has received a grant from Arts Tasmania in the past and that grant has not been acquitted, you will not be eligible to apply to Arts Tasmania until your acquittal is accepted.
