The NSW Government is pleased to announce the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant to develop and support Aboriginal people through the creation of training and employment opportunities.
Promoting diversity, innovation and service responsiveness in the NSW workforce, the program will contribute funding towards the salary, development and support costs of Aboriginal employees in NSW Public Service Agencies or Local Government Authorities.
The NSW Government is committed to supporting Aboriginal people to achieve social, economic and cultural prosperity. The EDAEG supports this strategic direction by enabling Aboriginal people to access employment and career development pathways into the public sector
Objectives
The objectives of the Grant are to:
- Encourage the permanent employment and professional mobility of Aboriginal people in NSW public service agencies and local government authorities, with special incentives for the employment of Aboriginal people with a disability, and
- Promote innovation in achieving education, employment and training outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Grant Elements
- Permanent (Ongoing) Employment: A one-off grant to support the permanent employment of an Aboriginal person. Grant amount is dependent on the level of role, additional training opportunities and skill development opportunities.
- Temporary (Term Employment): A one-off grant that s the salary cost of a temporary position (Minimum six months, up to twelve months) that will provide a significant skill development opportunity for an Aboriginal person who is already permanently employed in a NSW public service agency or local government authority.
- School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT): A one-off grant that subsidises the creation of a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship for an Aboriginal student in a NSW public service agency or local government authority (LGA).
- Post School Employment: grant to contribute towards the continuation of employment in the form of a higher-level traineeship for; Aboriginal person who successfully completed a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship in the previous year.
Funding Information
- Permanent Employment – $30,000 up to $40,000 (dependant on level of position) to support permanent employment.
- Temporary Secondment – $20,000 up to $40,000 (dependant on level of position) to support a temporary position of up to 12 months that offers significant skill development for a permanent employee.
- School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships – $10,000 one off payment to support school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.
- Post School Element – $10,000 – $20,000 (pro-rata)
Eligibility Criteria
- The EDAEG provides funding to organisations (not individuals) to support Aboriginal education, employment and training.
- Organisations applying for funding under the EDAEG must be registered, based in NSW and provide services within the State.
- To be eligible, organisations must be a:
- NSW public service agency; or
- NSW local government authority operating under the Local Government Act 1993
Ineligibility
Funding will not be provided to support:
- Positions that form part of an organisations bulk or annual recruitment intake
- Existing positions within an organisations staffing structure
- A position(s) that has previously been funded under the program
- A position(s) that has previously been funded under the Temporary Placement/Secondment element of the program
- A position(s) that has been filled prior to the closing date for applications i.e. no retrospective funding.
