European Commission accepting Proposals for Motorways of Sea

The European Commission (EC) is currently accepting proposals for the Motorways of the Sea – works or mixed to alleviate congestion and/or to reduce the environmental impact of transport through short sea shipping links.

The supported works, with the possibility to include studies, shall relate to:

the upgrade of port infrastructure, hinterland connections and dedicated terminals, where required to establish or expand such short sea shipping links. Such actions shall involve at least one Core Network port in a Member State and another Core or Comprehensive Network port in another Member State with the main purpose to establish or expand cross-border links;
Actions facilitating the provision and use of short sea shipping but not linked to specific ports such as ICT platforms, facilities for ice-breaking or activities ensuring year-round navigability.

Funding Information

The available call budget is EUR 100,000,000.
The foreseen duration of the action should be 4-5 years maximum.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible, the applicants (beneficiaries and affiliated entities) must:

be legal entities (public or private bodies)
be established in one of the eligible countries, ie:
- EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories (OCTs))
- third countries associated to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
