The City of St. Albert invites non-profit organizations serving St. Albert residents, to apply for Family & Community Support Services Program Funding that addresses an identified community need.
Under the Family and Community Support Services Act and Regulation, funding is provided for the delivery of preventive social programs defined as those programs that “enhance the social well-being of individuals and families through promotion or intervention strategies at the earliest opportunity ”, and that align with and support the Five Core Values identified in the City’s Social Master Plan, (Sense of Belonging and Connectedness, Diversity and Inclusion, Social Responsibility and Engagement, Healthy Lifestyle and Well-Being, Capacity Building).
Purpose of Programs/Service
- Examples of appropriate community programs:
- Prevention/early Intervention of family violence
- Community Income Tax Program
- Parent education, child development, and social emotional skills 0-12 years
- Support for LGBTQ2S+
- Outreach services for seniors experiencing isolation, food/housing/financial insecurity
- Outreach services for adults experiencing isolation, food/housing/financial insecurity
- Mentoring children and youth

Strategic
- There are five strategic directions of the FCSS Program:
- Help people develop independence, strengthen coping skills and become more resistant to crisis
- Help people to develop an awareness of social needs
- Help people to develop interpersonal and group skills which enhance constructive relationships among people
- Help people and communities to assume responsibility for decisions and actions which affect them
- Provide supports that help sustain people as active participants in the community
Eligible/Non-Eligible Projects
- In providing for the establishment, administration and operation of a program, a municipality must do all of the following:
- Promote and facilitate the development of stronger communities
- Promote public participation in planning, delivery and governing the program and services provided under the program
- Promote and facilitate the involvement of volunteers
- Promote efficient and effective use of resources
- Promote and facilitate co-operation and co-ordination with allied service agencies operating within the municipality
