The ACT for Alexandria is pleased to announce the Fund for Racial Equity.
With the Fund for Racial Equity, ACT for Alexandria is bringing donors and community members together around a common vision of a thriving Alexandria where all residents have equal opportunities and resources to live healthy, fulfilling lives free of racism, discrimination, poverty, violence, and other systems of marginalization. The Fund for Racial Equity is dedicated to supporting efforts that dismantle systemic racism and advance racial equity in the city of Alexandria. Fund for Racial Equity grantmaking is guided by a Community Advisory Board.
With this grant opportunity the Fund for Racial Equity Community Advisory Board aims to support nonprofits and individuals working to advance racial equity in the City of Alexandria.
Proposed grant activities must focus on making equitable gains in one of the following priority areas: Child Welfare, Education, Health, or Housing.
Successful applications will:
- Advance racial equity within the grantmaking emphasis areas
- Center equity in executing grant activities
- Build agency for those most impacted by structural racism
What is the Fund for Racial Equity?
- ACT for Alexandria is bringing donors and community members together to fight against generations of racial injustice in Alexandria. The Fund for Racial Equity has been created for a single goal: to provide a sustainable source of funding dedicated to supporting efforts that dismantle systemic racism and advance racial equity in Alexandria. The fund itself is community-driven, guided by the experiences and insights of the people living in Alexandria. They are focused on community decision-making, centering the voices and perspectives of those most impacted by systemic racism. A Community Advisory Board establishes the fund’s priorities and leads decision-making. They are seeking committed donors to join them in making a meaningful financial commitment to support this goal.

- Activate Alexandrians to advance racial equity in Alexandria
- Drive Agency for those most impacted by systemic racism
- Educate about the history and impact of racism to better combat it
- Support innovative and creative work tackling current and long-term needs
Funding Information
- The Fund (with support from the Greater Washington Community Foundation) will award $50,000 in grants and accept requests up to $2,000 from individuals and nonprofit organizations.
Eligibility Criteria
- Individual residents and nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply for funding. Individuals are allowed to apply for funding regardless of their racial identity and you do not have to live in Alexandria. They welcome applications for those 16 or over, however, those under the age of 18 will need parent/guardian permission.
- They are only able to accept one application per individual or nonprofit organization.
- Multiple people from one organization may apply as an individual, however, they should be applying for different project.
