Organizations are encouraged to apply for funding for a project that is specifically designed by the organization to advance its capacity-building and help enhance organizational effectiveness for the future.
The Future Empowerment Grant is available to eligible registered charitable and Indigenous-led organizations that align with one or more of UWSVI’s areas of action (Families, Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors and Elders).
United Way Southern Vancouver Island (UWSVI) is proud to offer this new grant opportunity, from a pool of $2,000,000.
Core Capacities
- For United Way Southern Vancouver Island will be accepting applications for projects focused on one of the following four core capacities:
- Governance: Focusing on improvements to processes and structures used by the Board of Directors (i.e., development or revision to board bylaws, policies, procedures documents, terms of reference, roles/responsibilities of the board, board review/assessment, skills matrices and board recruitment processes).
- Financial Management: Fostering an improved ability in agencies to effectively manage and deploy organizational revenues and assets (i.e., development of process and procedures, policy and technological improvements) to ensure financial efficiency, accountability and transparency.
- Human Resources: Enhancing areas related to the systems, policies and procedures to ensure effective functioning of an agency’s human resources that comply, at minimum, with employment, health and safety and other applicable legislation as well as good practice standards (i.e., development of HR policies, succession planning, procedures, development of job descriptions, conflict resolution policy, diversity, equity, and inclusion policies/procedures, volunteer management policies/procedures).
- Strategy and Business Planning: Enhancing agency capacity to result in stronger decision-making, strategic development and planning processes (i.e., development of strategic plans, needs assessment/plan development, communications and social media planning, environmental scans to gauge changing client need(s), and information and technology planning).
Funding Information
- The maximum grant request should not exceed $75,000.
- Projects must be completed by March 31, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
- To apply for United Way Southern Vancouver Island’s Future Empowerment Grant, your organization must meet all the following eligibility criteria:
- Be based in and providing service within the Capital Regional District (CRD).
- Operate as a federally registered charitable organization or qualified donee.
- Have a mission, purpose, programs, or activities that align with UWSVI’s areas of action (Families, Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors and Elders).
- Have audited or reviewed financial statements for at least two consecutive years (i.e., 2023 and 2024).
- Agree to work with UWSVI to provide project outcome data including sharing of stories and statistics.
- Review the UWSVI Letter of Agreement (LOA) and UWSVI Funding Framework prior to applying.
- Funding for a UWSVI Future Empowerment Grant should not exceed more than 75% of the total project budget.
