Deadline: 25-Feb-22
The Weir Charitable Trust is inviting applications to support services/projects, run by Scottish-based community groups and small charities.
Categories
- Sport: encouraging and increasing public participation in sport (activities which involve physical skill and exertion)
- Recreational facilities: the provision or organisation of recreational facilities (buildings, pitches or similar) with the aim of improving the conditions of life for the people for whom the facilities are primarily intended. This is only in relation to facilities which are:
- primarily intended for people who need them due to age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage
- available to members of the public at large
- Animal welfare: for the advancement of animal welfare
- Health: the advancement of health, including prevention or relief of sickness, disease or human suffering
- Culture: supporting the heritage – tangible or otherwise – of Scotland, through projects that encourage participation in and preservation of Scotland’s distinctive culture.
Note: If your application does not meet one of these five criteria, it will be rejected without further consideration. Likewise, if the sum asked for is above £25,000, the application will not be considered. Please note that meeting one of the five categories does not guarantee funding as awards are made at the discretion of Trustees and their decision is final.
The Trust will not fund individuals or commercial activity nor can it sponsor you if you are undertaking an event to raise money for a charity.
Funding Information
- Cost out your project or activity then ask for what you need.
- But the Trust reserves the right to award grants in full, in part or not at all depending on its assessment of the merits of the application.
- It is unlikely they will fund requests in full – they would expect to see evidence of efforts being made to raise funds by applicants themselves. In exceptional circumstances, a maximum of up to £25,000 can be applied for or awarded.
Note: The Trust’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.
What can funding be used for?
- Funding can be used for capital projects (such as equipment, fixtures, fittings and refurbishments), running costs, one-off projects, core costs and salaries.
- In summary, anything you need it for as long as it contributes to providing a benefit to your community. If you receive an award, the money must be used for the purposes laid out in your application
Eligibility Criteria
- You are a small charity or community group with an annual income of less than £125,000
- Community groups and small charities, based in Scotland and providing services in Scotland, who are struggling to secure funds through mainstream funders or who have unsuccessfully explored all the statutory sources of funding.
- You may be new or established but must also meet one of the criteria in Qualifying Category and be seeking funding of less than £25,000.
- That doesn’t necessarily guarantee funding, but it means that Trustees will consider your application. Awards are made at their discretion and their decision is final. You must also be able to demonstrate the benefit a grant from the Trust will bring to the people or community you serve.
