Deadline: 12-Apr-22
The Hertfordshire Community Foundation (HCF) is seeking applications for its Environmental Projects.
Funding Information
Grants of up to £5,000 are available for projects that aim to improve their local environment in Hertfordshire, educate about the impact of climate change, and have a positive impact on the lives of Hertfordshire residents.
Possible Projects
Examples of possible projects include:
- Regeneration of green spaces
- Restoration of local habitats
- Organised litter picking
- Community gardening (with an environmental focus)
- Forest school classes
- Citizen science projects
Eligibility Criteria
- Charities
- Community or voluntary groups with a written constitution or governing document
- Social enterprises, or Community Interest Companies limited by guarantee
- Other non-profit format (e.g. co-operative societies)
Groups of all sizes are welcome to apply, but priority is always given to smaller grassroots groups. In practise this means that groups with annual income over £1m are rarely funded from this programme. If your organisation has income of this size but you have a discrete project you would like to apply for, please contact them for an informal conversation before applying.

They are looking for projects that do one of more of the following:
- Allow local communities to get involved in environmental activities
- Encourage behaviour changes that benefit the environment
- Have a positive impact on the environment and individuals
- Educate about the environment and/or the impact of climate change
Ineligible
They will not fund:
- Contributions to large capital appeals
- Projects for schools (unless there is a significant wider community benefit)
- Animal welfare
- One-off events with no long term benefit
