The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Malawi is inviting Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to provide support on the implementation of the Spotlight Initiative.
The main objective of this grant selection process is to identify CSO/CBOs with operational presence and capacities to engage communities in the six (6) Spotlight districts to provide support on access to justice services through the provision of mobile courts, particularly those in remote communities.
The proposal submitted must be aligned simultaneously to the Outcome area 4: Women and girls who experience violence, including SGBV/HP, use available, accessible, acceptable, and quality essential services including for long term recovery from violence.
Funding Information
Proposals eligible for this call are those with a budget of USD 90,000 to be spent within a 7-month period.
Outcomes
Below are some of the expected outcomes from the planned interventions:
- Work with community structures including traditional leaders, community policing and the social welfare office to identify, report and refer cases to fast track their prosecution through mobile courts.
- Provide training to community members on how to manage cases of VAW, SGBV and Harmful Practices (HP).
- Provide outreach and awareness on reporting of VAW, SGBV and HP cases.
- Initiate mapping strategies for referral pathways that will provide utmost support to survivors of VAW, SGBV and HP.
- Provide oversight in the handling of mobile courts
- Provide training for women’s rights advocates, women’s groups and Gender Technical Working Groups on human rights, women’s rights, gender equitable norms, attitudes and behaviors to strengthen reporting of cases of VAW, SGBV and HP.
- Conduct engagement and/or monitoring and reporting of VAW, SGBV and HP cases.
Eligibility Criteria
- Civil Society Organizations and Community Based Organizations shall have proven experience in the proposed area of programming for the grant. Experience of managing of projects with comparable budget size within the last two years will be considered as an asset. Organizations should be registered in accordance with the legal requirements of the Malawi Government. The CBO or CSO must be registered with the NGO board or District Council respectively. Proof of registration should be attached together with the grant application.
- Women’s grassroots/local/community-based organizations are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Although, not mandatory, CSOs are welcome to submit proposals as coalitions. In this case, main applicants must provide support letters from relevant co-applicants specifying the role of the co-applicant. In case of coalition, the main applicant shall have proven experience in the proposed area of programming for the grant.
