Applications are now open for Hamber Foundation Grant Program for cultural, educational and charitable purposes within the Province of British Columbia.
Evidence of registration must accompany the application. Applications are judged and given precedence on their merits. Grants are normally restricted to projects arising and undertaken in the Province of British Columbia.
Granting Committee Funding Guidelines
- Amateur Athletics
- Objective
- To support opportunities to play, learn, join or compete in a sport or physical activity, whether recreational or competitive.
- Priorities
- Youth or at risk individuals, especially under-represented populations such as females, Indigenous Peoples, persons with a disability, recent immigrants, socio-economically disadvantaged individuals, members of the LGBTQ community and youth living in rural, remote and isolated areas.
- Guiding Principles
- Consideration will be given to health-related projects that focus on physical activity, particularly for disadvantaged groups.

- Objective
- To support youth by advancing education through the provision of training, mentoring or support.
- Priorities
- Marginalized youth and youth at risk including Indigenous Peoples, LGBTQ-identified youth, racialized youth.
- Raising awareness of environmental and sustainability issues.
- Raising awareness of, and support for, gender identity and gender expression diversity.
- Promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Guiding Principles
- Limit grants to between $ 1,000 to $ 2,000 per application.
- Avoid grants for capital investment such as playgrounds, computers and audio-visual equipment.
- Objective
- Cultural & Creative Arts
- Objective
- To support the cultural and creative arts, including visual arts, performing arts and literary arts.
- Priorities
- Projects that have an opportunity to create significant community engagement.
- Projects that multidisciplinary in their structure, including blending of various art forms and culture.
- Project that have the opportunity to significantly impact disadvantaged or at risk groups.
- Guiding Principles:
- The committee believes that its mandate is to ensure as widespread support as possible therefore grants of smaller amounts are preferred. Larger grants will be considered for projects believed to have exceptional community value and if recommended by the committee, will be funded out of the contingency funds available to the committee in that granting cycle.
- The committee preference is to support projects with multiple sources of financial support as opposed to projects looking largely or solely to the Hamber Foundation for support.
- The committee favours projects brought forward by teams with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and on budget.

- Objective
- To support activities that promote health by preventing or relieving mental or physical health conditions through the provision of services, education, or support for individuals with conditions or their informal caregivers and families.
- Priorities
- Guiding Principles
- Give preference to projects that have added value or provide longer-term or sustainable benefits.
- Allow for capital expenditure projects.
- Avoid projects with very large financial requirements or long-term capital investments.
- Avoid projects with large organizations that are well established and have their own major sources of funding, such as hospital auxiliaries and foundations.

Eligibility Criteria
- Grants are awarded only to institutions and organizations registered as “educational” or “charitable” under the Canadian Income Tax Act and which are in possession of a registration number in good standing at the date of application.
