The Hamro Sahas Programme supports feminist organisations/WROs led by and representing marginalised communities to have stronger organisational capacities and access to resources (including financial) to advance gender transformative social norm change in Karnali, Madhesh and Lumbini Provinces.
Hamro Sahas will fund proposals of nine feminist organisations/WROs, or consortia of the same, for programming addressing gender discriminatory social norms. This will be paired with the creation of opportunities for capacity building, peer exchange and learning (Communities of Practice).
Themes
- Gender-based violence prevention, for example by mobilising and empowering women and gender minorities, particularly youth as agents of change; mobilising communities for GBV prevention; engaging faith-based and traditional actors; carrying out behavioural change initiatives and transformational learning; working with men and boys.
- Addressing toxic masculinity through promoting positive masculinity including parenthood by engaging men and boys for gender transformational change in families and communities.
- Addressing harmful practices that are prevalent in the given provinces such as chhaupadi in Karnali Province or dowry in Madhesh. Programming could include similar initiatives as above.
- Addressing the care burden through shifting social norms around care and domestic work and aiming at redistributing care in families and households including through the promotion of positive masculinity including parenthood by engaging men and boys.
- Addressing unequal power relations and strengthening political participation and leadership of women, particularly those from historically marginalised groups including by supporting engagement in public debate, citizen engagement, sensitisation on gender bias and stereotypes, or media and advocacy campaigns challenging gender stereotypes and to promote positive image of women in leadership.
- Addressing restriction on property rights limiting women’s access to economic empowerment
Funding Information
- The budget range for this proposal is USD 190,000 – 200,000 for Consortium Applicants and USD 110,000 – 120,000 for Individual Organizations.

- Hamro Sahas will fund organisations working in Karnali, Madhesh and Lumbini Provinces.
Eligibility Criteria
- Lead or individual women’s rights organisations that have been legally registered for at least five (5) years and can demonstrate a minimum of three (3) years of experience in implementing programmatic interventions focused on gender equality.
- Women’s Rights Organization:
- Governed or directed by women; or
- whose leadership is principally made up of women, demonstrated by 50 per cent or more occupying senior leadership positions. For consortium applications, this criterion applies to the lead organization, which is encouraged to ensure similar structure within consortium partners.
- Organizations (individuals or consortiums) led by women and gender minorities from marginalized communities— including those with disabilities, LGBTIQ+ community, Dalit, Madhesi, Indigenous, religious minority groups, and young feminist organizations working on the relevant areas as mentioned in the Terms of Reference—are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Organisations can either submit their proposals as a consortium of organisations or individually (single organisation).
- For consortiums it is encouraged to bring together more established organisations with younger/newer feminist organisations. Consortiums are preferred. Consortiums established with younger feminist organizations will receive additional points during scoring.
