The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) New Delhi Cluster Office, along with its network of partners, is launching a new skills-building and grants programme for community actors working with youth, with a focus on introducing new methodologies for strengthening social cohesion in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Through a series of eight 2-hour expert workshops, the programme will initially train its participants in evidence-informed actions and interventions focused on various aspects of strengthening social cohesion, including education, media, sports and arts-based approaches.
After the training series, small grants will be available for programme participants who demonstrate promising and effective community-led interventions that seek to build inclusion and resilience among youth.
Training Sessions
- The 8-week programme will consist of the following training sessions:
- 3 August 2022 – Education: Social and emotional learning, value-based education and skills-building
- 10 August 2022 – Communications and social media: Promoting media and information literacy, digital literacy, and positive narratives
- 16 August 2022 – Justice and rule of law: Promoting legal literacy and rights of young people
- 22 August 2022 – The pillars of positive peace: A data driven approach to building peaceful societies
- 30 August 2022 – Gender: Transforming MENtalies and empowering women, men and girls and boys for inclusion and resilience
- 8 September 2022 – Dialogue: Promoting intercultural competencies, cross-cultural and interreligious exchange, and spaces for dialogue
- 12 September 2022 – Innovative interventions for social cohesion: Using sports, heritage, and arts-based approaches to promote inclusion and resilience
- 15 September 2022 – Increasing economic opportunities for youth beyond formal education
Eligibility Criteria
- The series is designed for and targeted at up to 400 community participants, including educators, civil society leaders and policymakers whose work touches upon youth engagement and well-being in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
- The selection of programme participants will take into consideration their networks, work and access to youth and minority communities, geographic location, and potential to implement follow-up interventions.
- Interested participants working in Sri Lanka or the Maldives can apply for the programme.
