Deadline: 26-Oct-21
The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) have launch the Healthcare Technologies for Infectious Disease Resilience.
Scope of EPSRC healthcare technologies investigator-led grant
- UKRI is seeking a range of investigator-led proposals from researchers who want to apply their expertise to a defined healthcare challenge. You can work in:
- engineering
- physical sciences
- ICT
- mathematical sciences.
- UKRI particularly want to encourage research projects in line with the strategies and in the under-represented fields of:
- ICT
- mathematical sciences
- physical sciences.
- They would expect strong proposals to be working with clinical, business, charitable or public sector partners.
Themes
Your application should be in line with the grand challenges of the healthcare technologies theme:
- developing future therapies with technologies that enhance efficacy, minimise costs and reduce risks to patients
- frontiers of physical intervention, restoring physical function and optimising surgery and other physical interventions with high precision and minimal invasiveness
- optimising treatment through effective diagnosis, patient-specific prediction and evidence-based intervention
- transforming community health and care by using real-time information to support patients managing their own health and wellbeing and to allow healthcare professionals to make timely interventions.
Areas
Your project should be in one or both of these areas:
- Building resilience in healthcare systems to rapidly respond in healthcare emergencies: Solutions that help them prepare for, manage (absorb, adapt, and transform) and learn from shocks. For example, this includes:
- adaptable and scalable approaches to manufacturing vaccines and therapeutics
- alternative and flexible approaches to deliver care
- health surveillance systems and analytics to detect outbreaks.
- Preventing, controlling, diagnosing, and treating infectious diseases: For example, this includes:
- techniques for predictive prevention of disease
- decision-support dashboards and tools for healthcare professionals, and flexible and adaptable processes for manufacturing high-quality therapies.
Eligibility Criteria
- EPSRC research grants are open to:
- UK higher education institutions
- research council institutes
- UKRI-approved independent research organisations
- public sector research establishments
- NHS bodies with research capacity.
- You can apply if you are resident in the UK and meet at least one of these criteria:
- are employed at the submitting research organisation at lecturer level or equivalent
- hold a fixed-term contract that extends beyond the duration of the proposed research project, and the host research organisation is prepared to give you all the support normal for a permanent employee
- hold an EPSRC, Royal Society or Royal Academy of Engineering fellowship aimed at later career stages
- hold fellowships under other schemes.
