The Government of South Australia is currently accepting applications for the Horticulture Netting Infrastructure Grants Program to support the primary producers of horticultural crops for the purchase and installation of new netting or the replacement of damaged netting over land used to grow horticulture crops.
Funding Information
- $14.6 million in grants has been made available.
- You can apply for up to 50% of costs associated with horticulture netting, up to a maximum of $300,000.
Eligible Activities
- Funding will be provided for the costs of a third-party provider for the supply and installation of new and replacement permanent and throw-over protective netting and associated support structures required for installation.
- Written quotes or written cost estimates from a third-party supplier will need to be included with the application that confirms that the netting is appropriate for adverse weather protection, such as hail, protection with mesh sizes no larger than 30mm.
- Applications are to demonstrate that the proposed netting and associated support structures are designed to ensure they meet all relevant planning and building regulations and other regulations within your area. Relevant approvals will be required before grant funds are paid.
- Projects are to commence within 12 months of executing the Grant Deed. Projects should demonstrate a commitment to South Australian or regional employment and investment supplier inputs wherever possible.
Ineligible Activities
- Projects that have already received assistance from other relevant State or Federal Government grant funds to achieve the same project outcomes.
- Projects where netting and/or associated support structures have been damaged by the bushfires of 2019-20.
- Projects where insurance has been claimed for damaged netting and/or associated support structures.
- Retrospective funding for purchases or works undertaken prior to 16 December 2019.
- Feasibility studies, business cases, reports and development plans.
- Costs associated with the preparation of this application.
- Operational expenditure, including wages, utilities, self-installation, repairs and maintenance.
Eligibility Criteria

To apply for a grant under the Program all of the following conditions must be met:

Eligible applicants must:
- Be a primary production business
- Be property owners, share farmers or lease holders in the horticultural industry;
- Operate as a sole trader, partnership, trust or private company;
- Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN);
- Earn more than 50 per cent of their total income, from primary production business under normal seasonal circumstances.
- Where an applicant’s income from primary production is less than 50 per cent of their total income, the applicant may nonetheless be eligible for a grant if it can be demonstrated that the applicant derives at least 50 per cent of their total income from primary production and value added products (e.g. wine or food) made directly from primary produce grown by the applicant on their property.
- The netting infrastructure in respect of your application is to be installed for horticulture cropping (including grape vines cultivated for wine-making) established on your property.
