Deadline: 9-Jul-25
The Menstrual Health & Hygiene Management (MHHM) Programme is designed to create education and support systems that are inclusive and sensitive to the diverse needs of all girls and women.
This includes individuals both in and out of school settings, with a special focus on those living with disabilities.
The goal is to ensure that menstrual health education and services are accessible, relevant, and responsive across various community and institutional contexts.
The initiative falls under the broader sectors of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Environment, with a particular emphasis on hygiene. The geographic focus for this program spans across several provinces in Zambia, including Central, Copperbelt, Northern, Muchinga, and Lusaka.
The program is expected to deliver a range of impactful outcomes. In 20 districts, the Ministry of Education’s MHHM guidelines will be implemented at both school and zonal levels. A total of 1,000 Ministry of Education staff will be trained in MHHM, demonstrating enhanced capacity.
Operational plans of 400 schools will incorporate MHHM goals and WASH indicators, while 300 schools will carry out MHHM activities on a monthly or quarterly basis. It is anticipated that 25,000 menstruating students will participate in related activities and 50,000 girls and women will gain timely access to MHHM services.
To be considered for selection, organizations must have prior experience working with the UN and ideally with UNICEF or similar international partners.
Proposals will be assessed on cost-effectiveness, including clear evidence of the organization’s ability to deliver while offering good value for money and contributing co-financing.
Sector expertise is essential. Applicants should have at least five years of proven experience in MHHM and WASH programming in Zambia.
Additionally, they must demonstrate the availability of qualified personnel and strong internal systems capable of managing large-scale projects to high-quality standards.
