The ACT Government is pleased to announce the opportunity for individuals and community organisations to apply for financial support, in the form of a once-only grant to assist in a program or event for the International Day of People with Disability (I-Day) in 2022.
I-Day is held on 3 December each year. It is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote awareness and understanding of disability issues and encourage support for the dignity, rights and well-being of people with disability.
I-Day also seeks to increase awareness of the benefits of inclusion of people with disability in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
I-Day aims to bring together people with disability, community organisations, businesses, individuals and all levels of government. I-Day unites people in the celebration and acknowledgement of the contributions, skills and achievements of people with disability.
Funding Purpose
Projects, activities or initiatives must demonstrate how they will address one or more of the following five (5) priorities:
- Create inclusive opportunities for people with disability in the Canberra community
- Showcase the skills, abilities, contributions and achievements of people with disability.
- Raise awareness and understanding of disability issues, including raising awareness/prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault against women with disability.
- Provide opportunities for people with and without disability to come together, share ideas and network.
- Build sustainable options for people with disability to connect with their communities.
Funding Information
- Total funding of $25,000 (GST exclusive) is available in the 2022 round.
- Individuals and organisations may apply for a grant up to $5,000 (GST exclusive) to be used for a project or initiative in the 2022-2023 financial year.
What types of projects can receive funding?
The grants can fund many different types of projects, like:
- music, dance and drama performances
- floristry classes and art workshops
- networking events
- photographic and short film exhibitions
- information stalls at hospitals and local shopping centres
- guest speakers at lunches and BBQs
- inclusive agency open days and morning teas
- multi-sport competitions and ‘Come and Try’ days
- awards and competitions such as a poster competition for primary school students
- bush dances and dance parties
- formal launches of new business and resources.
Eligibility Criteria

Only organisations that meet all the following eligibility requirements may apply:
- be a non-government, incorporated entity that is not-for-profit;
- have no overdue reporting obligations for any previous ACT Government grant including: evaluations, acquittal reports and audited financial statements;
- provide an event/program that will be located primarily in the ACT and primarily for the benefit of ACT residents; and
- have not received funding from another source to deliver or provide the same or similar event/program.
- Organisations that are not incorporated must be auspiced by an incorporated entity with an Australian Business Number (ABN).
- Parents and Citizens Associations are welcome to apply for an I-Day Grant on behalf of a school.
- Only one application per eligible organisation is allowed.

Individual Eligibility Requirements

Only individuals that meet all the following eligibility requirements may apply:
- be over the age of 18 years
- provide proof of ACT residency
- provide an event/program which will be located primarily in the ACT and primarily for the benefit of ACT residents
- have no overdue reporting obligations for any previous ACT Government grant including: evaluations, acquittal reports and audited financial statements and
- have not received funding from another source to deliver or provide the same or similar event/program.
- Only one application per person is allowed.
