The Jacob and Terese Hershey Foundation is now inviting applications to provide grant support towards conservation of natural world, parks and open space, animal welfare, and family planning.
They are primarily interested in making investments that benefit one or more of the following geographic regions: greater Houston, central Texas and southwestern Colorado, as well as efforts of statewide significance in Texas.
They provide different types of support, including operating, project and capital grants, and are open to providing operating and project grants for terms of up to two years at a time.
Focus Areas
Their founders laid out the following as the Foundation’s five areas of focus, which have guided them since its inception:
- Preservation, conservation and defense of natural resources.
- Establishment, conservation and preservation of public parks and open spaces.
- Care facilities for domestic and wild animals.
- Educational efforts to promote environmental literacy.
- Efforts to advance family planning and ensure reproductive rights.
Foundation Typically Does Not Fund
- Galas and fundraising events.
- Grants, scholarships or memorials for individuals.
- Endowment funds.
- Religious activities.
- Ongoing maintenance and operations for parks and park conservancies.
- Work outside of Texas or southwestern Colorado without prior invitation.
- Community parks and animal care facilities outside of greater Houston, central Texas and southwestern Colorado.
Eligibility Criteria
- Work to support community parks and animal care facilities, the Foundation focuses on greater Houston, central Texas and southwestern Colorado and accepts LOIs from outside these areas by invitation only.
- The Foundation provides different types of support, including operating, project and capital grants.
- They are open to providing operating or project grants for terms of up to two years at a time. They typically provide just one grant toward a capital campaign.
