The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is seeking applications for the Jewish Community Fund.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia has long been guided by its mission of mobilizing financial and volunteer resources to address the communities’ most critical priorities locally, in Israel, and around the world. They take care of vulnerable people who need help, engage informed and compassionate communities in repairing the world, and energize Jewish life and Jewish learning.
Funding Announcement for Greater Philadelphia Organizations
Specifically, in this granting period they are seeking to fund Jewish Community Fund programs in the Greater Philadelphia area that will:
- Serve Vulnerable Populations
- Promote self-sufficiency, food security, housing stability and independence in Jewish individuals;
- Support and enhance the communal social service system.
- Allow Jewish adults to age with dignity with home-delivered meals, home repair, socialization, transportation, care management, and access to continued learning opportunities.
- Reduce hunger among low-income Jewish adults through emergency food distribution.
- Create pathways for low-income Jewish adults to access public benefits and work supports to promote independence.
- Shape the Jewish Future
- Promote and increase formal and informal Jewish educational opportunities for children and teenagers; including but not limited to day school education, Jewish camping, and other immersive experiences.
- Connect young families with resources and engagement opportunities in Philadelphia and Israel that will influence Jewish leadership and participation.
- Increase engagement of young adults to strengthen Jewish identity, Jewish wisdom, communal leadership, and Jewish practice.
- Celebrate the diversity of the Jewish community ensuring that historically disconnected groups, such as interfaith families, LGBTQ+ individuals, Russian speaking Jews, Hebrew speaking Jews, and Jews of Color, are connected to Jewish life, promoting programs that are welcoming, Jewish values-based, and responsive to their needs and interests.
- Increase opportunities under Jewish Community Fund for adult Jewish education that creates ongoing opportunities for learning, community building through Jewish values, and motivation to give back to the community.
- Enhance the sense of belonging to a Jewish community, including outside traditional institutions, by creating connections and shared experiences to those who share geography, interests, age, gender, and/or other defining characteristics.
- Ensure Jewish Philadelphia has the infrastructure to foster connections between religious and cultural institutions and support diverse religious/cultural expressions of Judaism.
- Connect with Israel
- Provide access to transformative Israel experiences and Israel education that ignite connection to Jewish Peoplehood worldwide and inspire participants to take on leadership roles within the Jewish community when they return.
- Support Aliyah and travel opportunities to enhance connections worldwide.
- Enhance opportunities engagement between local community members, Israelis, and Jews around the world.
- Work to ensure that every Jew in Philadelphia, Israel, and across the world can live and express their Jewish identity safely, openly, and with no fear.
- Create celebrations of major holidays and accomplishments in Israel for the Greater Philadelphia community to enhance connections between the two communities.
Funding Announcement for Israel Agencies
The goals for the Jewish Community Funds in Israel for Fiscal Years 2022-2024 are the following:
- Increase social cohesion through improving the social mobility of vulnerable populations in Israel such as new immigrants, the elderly (including Holocaust survivors), Haredi population, minorities, and youth at risk with a focus on communities in the periphery.
- Expand the multitude of Jewish expressions, practices, and opportunities in Israel and enhance opportunities for traditional connections and new forms of engagement between community members and Israelis and Jews around the world.
- Ensure that every Jew in Philadelphia, in Israel, and across the world, can practice Jewish life safely, openly, and with no fear. The Jewish Federation also seeks to enhance resiliency among communities in Israel and globally facing security threats, trauma, and natural hazards.
- Support legacy partners to help maintain a global Jewish safety net infrastructure while facing new challenges and using new methodologies.
Specifically, the Jewish Community Fund is seeking partner organizations that work in the following areas:
- Reducing food insecurity and loneliness of elderly and immigrant populations in Israel, especially among Holocaust survivors.
- Addressing food insecurity for Jews in despair around the world.
- Addressing poverty in Israel by providing quality education and job opportunities for communities at risk.
- Supporting infrastructure and programs that create increased acceptance of various types of Jewish expression.
- Deepening engagement opportunities between Jews in Philadelphia with peers in Israel and around the world.
- Creating meaningful Israel travel experiences.
- Developing programs to combat Boycott and Divestment Strategies (BDS), combat antisemitism, and strengthen resilience.
- Supporting Jews who seek to make aliyah.
Priority for Jewish Community Fund will be given to organizations that:
- Work in multiple locations.
- Have projects that operate in the Negev
- Currently or have plans to cultivate strategic partnerships and collaborations with other philanthropies.
- Promote creative platforms for social justice led by and catering to young adults.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous and deep learning.
- Embrace advocacy as a means to create long-term social change.
