The Joint Gender Fund invites community-based organizations or movements with a focus on ending gender-based violence to submit funding proposals to support innovative projects and campaigns that advocate for awareness and more effective implementation of existing and new policies.
Proposals should involve working with various stakeholders in society to responding to and preventing violence against women through popularizing of GBV legislation and policy frameworks. Advocacy efforts proposed by applicants should result in relevant government structures and departments having increased engagement with civil society formations.

- The Victim Support Services Bill
- Disaster Risk Management in relation to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)
- Promoting an end to Violence Against Women in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Funding Information
- Up to R100 000 (Up to one year) depending on the organizational assessment.
JGF Will Support
- Institutional costs
- Capacity building and training
- Direct program and activity costs
- Workshops, events, exchange visits, peer learning
- Small infrastructure development and small items of equipment.
Eligibility Criteria
Organizations must:
- Be a registered South African non-profit organization, working at a community level in South Africa;
- Work on human rights/development issues as a core business;
- Have adequate financial and management systems;
- Have a governance structure that is active and involved;
- Have strong leadership, participation, and empowerment by people who experience gender-based oppression (particularly womxn)
- Have a vision for transforming unequal gender power relations
- Demonstrate alignment with the overall strategy of the JGF
