The Kone Foundation is seeking proposals for its grant program to support research in the humanities, social sciences and environmental sciences, as well as artistic research.
The Kone Foundation supports research in the humanities, social sciences and environmental sciences, as well as artistic research. The Foundation supports artistic work in all fields of art, as well as multidisciplinary work combining art and research.
In general, Kone Foundation’s grants are intended for:
- Finns, for work carried out in Finland or abroad
- foreigners, for work carried out in Finland
- foreigners, for project work that includes participants based in Finland
Theme
- The programme may cover the history, institutions and current status of democracy and the rule of law. What is the relationship of monopolies of violence to democracy, such as the military and the police? What is the current state of democracy in academic institutions, and what does its potential erosion mean for the future of research, as well as for understanding of democracy? How is democracy present in the arts and private foundations? Finally, what does the future of democracy look like?
- The programme will include funding calls for projects based on research but can combine research with art, journalism and/or activism. Longer projects lasting up to four years are preferred. The programme will include opportunities to bring together people working on similar topics.
A grant may be awarded for a maximum of four years at a time (also the combined duration of consecutive funding periods for the same project). You must start using the grant during the year after the decision, at the earliest in January. The Foundation encourages long-term work in both research and the arts.
