The Embassy of Japan in Kosovo invites applications to apply for The Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) for the fiscal year 2023.
“Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)” scheme supports projects proposed by various bodies such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local government authorities.
This grant aid instrument provides support to relatively small projects in Basic Human Needs (BHN) sectors at the grassroots level. It has received a worldwide reputation for the provision of timely assistance. Through this instrument, Japan has provided seamless assistance ranging from humanitarian aid that provides support to communities for their immediate basic human needs to community and nation-building in post-conflict areas.
Project Areas
- Development project targeted at grass-roots level assistance is eligible for financing under GGP.
- The following areas are the main target of GGP:
- Primary Education
- Primary Health Care
- Public Welfare
- Environment
- Project targets cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, youth, social inclusion is highly encouraged to apply.
Funding Information
- GGP funds are provided to the recipient organization after an examination and evaluation of each project-based application by the Japanese Government annually.
- The maximum grant amount per project is 10 million Japanese Yen (approximately equivalent to 70,000-80,000 Euros including audit fee, depending on the exchange rate).
Eligibility Criteria
- Any type of nonprofit organization is eligible to be a GGP recipient. The only requirement is that it has to be a nonprofit organization implementing development projects at the grass-roots level (Central Government and international organizations, as well as individuals and profit-oriented organizations, are not eligible).
- The following lists are examples of potential recipients:
- International or local NGOs
- Community-based organizations (CBOs)
- Local authorities
- Health Institutions
- Primary Schools and Vocational (Training) Schools
- Other nonprofit associations.
The following areas are not financed by GGP:
- Projects for assisting research at advanced academic institutions and projects for improving the capacities of the recipient organization itself
- Projects that are limited to commercial activities and creation of employment of particular individuals and organizations, and where the direct benefits for grass-roots activities are uncertain
- Projects that are not closely related to economic and social development (such as culture, arts, and Sports-related projects)
- Projects with a political or missionary purpose or the intention of military use
- Items NOT to be financed:
- Tax of any form (VAT can be exempted)
- Consumable goods such as foods and medicine (except in case of emergency relief)
- Operational and maintenance costs
- Administrative costs of the recipient organization such as salary for staff members
- Ordinary Cars (Unless its use is specified)
- Books (teaching materials, library collections, etc.)
- Computers (Unless its use is specified).
